Got my vRS today

Featured Replies

After waiting for a week I've got my black metallic vRS today. :) So far am very impressed and have been busy running it in, pretty much by the book. The MPG display is pretty neat and does have an effect on the way I drive it, just as well there isn't one in my Scoob!

I think that I'll save up to get the seats re-trimmed in leather as the kids dirty feet have already left their marks.

Only down side so far is that I've had loads of people pulling out in front of me at junctions etc, not sure if having a black car is such a good idea (had the lights on).

Wifey loves it too, she reckons it's the easiest car to drive that we've had but she's stuck with the Scoob during the week from now on - oh God, she's a maniac :D

Sounds excellent mate

Enjoy :D

Sounds great mate, i pick mine up next saturday and i am starting to not sleep beacuse i am that excited. Went out with a mate in a Leon FR today and if the Fabia Vrs is anything like that then i will be well chuffed!!!

Sounds like your really enjoying the Skoda experience already.

which is great,so we'll see you at the Nurburgring meet this year then????

Hi Alex!

I didn't know about that - still finding my way around this place. Hmm, wonder if I can get the missis to come so we can try both cars out :)

I've had some time learning the car and trying to probe gently at the limits of handling so I can make sure that I program my reflex system for those emergency situations. It's quite a grippy car (tyres still not scrubbed in) but even in the wet reckon it's quite decent though when I got back in to the Scoob for a run in the wet noticed how much more precise the steering is and the feel is quite a bit better. The Scoob also has a substantial amount more control and grip, and, err, speed. That said, the Scoob had Eibach's and F1's on 17" rims so once I am ready may look at improving the vRS.

Nothing I can do will give me AWD and 300BHP so am happy to enjoy the vRS for what it is, a great, nippy and economical car that puts a BIG smile on your face.

:D

Mike

PS. The missis is now looking on Autotrader for a Fabia!

Glad you like it. You're in almost the same boat as me, but my wife is nailing around in an 04 STi. :(

I think the computer in the scoob would ruin it, seeing the effect it's had on my vRS. As it's my weekly run-around, i use it as that, and try to get the best MPG possible (except monday morning, friday afternoon)

My wife said when driving it, she wishes she had it instead of the scoob, as it was so easy to drive. Don't think i'll let her drive it much more, otherwise i may get pressure to sell my other black beast. :thumbdwn:

Hello and Welcome, glad you like!

can't wait till the day i can afford to switch my vRS to a scooby, always wanted one!!!

You're in for a pleasant surprise. They are night & day apart, but having both, i take them for what they are and enjoy both. I'd be shagged if i had to do 100 miles per day in the scoob. It's certainly "involving".

Your day will come young jedi :)

(Surely you can sell the vRS and get a classic + couple of years insurance?)

Surely you can sell the vRS and get a classic + couple of years insurance?

I have a wedding to pay for, a large mortgage & lots of other things on at the moment so i dont have the time to get one at the moment.

I'm waiting till things cool down a bit and i can afford one and not have to worry about insurance/running costs (30 miles a day travelling).

Well I did my first round trip to London today and even though I'm taking it easy while I run my vRS in I am even more pleased than I thought I'd be. I was very surprised at the fuel economy, 49.5 mpg and even 6th has useful pull. I can keep up with the traffic with no problems.

I had the rolling mpg display on and noticed that strangely the readout can show better economy in 5th than 6th at around 60-70 mph so guess that I have to learn the engine and make the most from it. I didn't feel at all at a disadvantage on the motorway, it's civilised and much quieter than the full de-cat Scoob.

I don't know if I mentioned that I cover around 40,000 miles a year and my 02 Scoob has done 125,000 miles since I bought it. After doing some sums, I reckon that I get 2.5 - 3 times the economy - at least! That is a huge saving. Every penny saved is a penny towards the 997. Only joking :D

Do you have an impreza wrx sti?

Just the WRX with de-cat and PPP so it's probably better than the STi in standard spec but not with PPP or remap.

Oh, sorry to keep going on about the Scoob, just amazed at how enjoyable the vRS is and in my view, if you have a Scoob and can enjoy a vRS it say's a lot about the Fabia :)

Have to say the impreza is only slighty more to insure than my modded vRS.

Might be worth looking into ;) (I would if I didn't do high mileage)

Sorry for talking about this in this thread, but...

How much bhp does it have?

  • Author

I've never had it on the rollers but guess with Optimax on a good day maybe 260-270 bhp? To be honest, after taking it for a spin yesterday I had several OMG experiences, plenty enough power for me :) Best way to describe it in real life is that with the vRS you get that nice wallop of urge, imagine that continuing up to 7,000 rpm, well, maybe it's pointless much after 6,000 but it's great fun but not really useable in day to day driving so the vRS is spot on for that.

Right, no more Scooby stuff from me, you can find out all you ever need to know on scoobynet :)

You're kidding right? About the same in a straight line.

Some miles that. Yes, we're both saving a fortune on fuel. I haven't found the best from the little beauty yet, but i normally get 49-53mpg on my trips to work. I've switched the current mpg and seen 147 :)

Some times the refinement is nice, but i miss the rumble, pops n' bang. :D

Do you have an impreza wrx sti?

Yep, close to 300 horses.

might be worth a look, but at 22 insurance will still be expensive.

Oi you guys, shut up about Scoobs :bigcry:

Making me pine for my old one

Chris

Scoobs? Pah!

They have their place but, I'd rather have an Octy RS. Oh I forgot, I did! :D

Had a Scoob on order but cancelled it and bought the Octy instead. I'm glad I did. I do 50-60k miles per year so I saved a bit. I also found that very few Scoobs could touch it on track - only the well setup (John Felsteads STI 5 RA V ltd) or well modded ones. Hey I even manage to give them a good run in my current diesel one  Not really an idle boast, documented in a certain scoob magazine :D

I do like scoobs, contrary to how this reads but if I had to chose a rally rep it'd be an Evo. I find them more involving although if I had one I'd probably end up living in the dealership as I'd need a service every 3 weeks  :D

Valid point, but remember the Fabia vRS is very much a different kettle of fish and I doubt even a properly setup 255 bhp Allard vRS would be much of match for a Type 25

Lend me one and we'll see ;)
