Occy stereo

Sons 18 plate 1.6td ..

would his audio have its own HD?

It would depend what headunit is fitted.  I’d suspect not though.

Unless it's fitted with a Columbus sat nav then no.

But you can always just use a SD card or plugin USB HDD instead (check amazon for deals), beware that the systems only recognise SD cards and drive's up to a certain size.

The SD card limit for the older Bolero in the Mk II is 32GB. It's probably the same for the other units of its era.

The newer stereos may allow bigger. If you have a spare SD card 64GB or bigger hanging around, it might be worth trying it to see if it can be recognised. You may have to reformat it to FAT32 if it is an exFAT card and the stereo doesn't like it.

Even if it's a Columbus the HD capacity is a real disappointment. It's handy that the maps are stored internally and they take literally minutes to update.

When I remembered how much HD capacity there was in my Mk2.5 Columbus, to find less in the new Columbus was really terrible. I just use SD Card.

If you've got a unit that supports >32GB, there is no real point going above 64GB - there is a limit on the number of tracks you can have and even at good bitrate you'll hit that limit before you dot he 64GB.

I use a 200GB SD card with my MIB1 Amundsen, which has over 105GB of mp3 files stored on it and all are usable.

Be interested to know your file count on that card.

I'm ripping at about 384k and reach file limit before 64GB.

When you say "all usable" you've checked you can access everything on there?

File count is 10,646 by 361 artists in a total of 518 folders

I can read the oldest album and the newest album added to the SD card - and over the last 3 days driving we've listened to around 50 albums (approx 1000 files).

So I think it's highly likely that all are usable?

I'm using a 128gb card in My18 plate. With over 20k files in total and all work.

Only problems I had was more than 2k files in one directory. Issues were loss of artwork, track jumping when turning on/off and bit of slow down on initial start-up after long sleep (overnight)

Stick to max 1k files per folder now and no problems

I have my full collection, 26,000 songs on a 200gb card around 160gb, works fine
