Vibration !!

Good afternoon all. Wonder if anybody may have come across the issue I have with my 2014 2.0 DSG estate...

 

I have an issue where the car, at various times and various speeds, has a 'vibration'. 

 

It is felt through the car, not just the steering wheel. It can appear and disappear at the same speed on cruise control.

 

I have had the issue for more than 6 months and have so far tried:

 

New tyres (on 3rd set) of different brands.

multiple wheel balances

replaced front drive shafts.

replaced rear shock absorbers

 

Anything else I can try please ?? Or has anybody had the same problem and cured it ??

Discs checked and not warped? No sticking calipers? 

 

Have the engine mounts been checked?

There was a similar thread some time ago that ran and ran - the final problem was an out of true wheel.

I had something similar with my estate that I bought Nov 18.

 

It only was noticable above about 60mph but wasn't consistent with any particular speed.

 

I noticed the rear tyres were wearing on the inside edge, & know from previous VW group cars this is a common problem.

 

Took it for a 4 wheel alignment & swopped the front/ rear tyres around.

 

Hasn't been a problem since.

4 wheel alignment by some that definitely knows what they are doing (Hunter Wheel alignment) AlignMyCar

and checking engine mountings at that mileage mines are going at 125,000

Similar problem with ours, turned out to be sticking passenger side front caliper

Similar thing on mine recently, seems to have been a rear tyre had got deformed, wheel appeared to,run true.  Changed wheels anyhow and new tyres and all seems good now.

You have given me some more avenues to explore.

 

Fairly sure brakes are ok and not binding.

 

Will do 4 wheel alignment first and go down the engine mount route.

 

Will update if I get to the bottom of it.

I have a similar issue with my 2012 superb CR170 4x4, 99k, only in top gear and under acceleration load uphill, take foot off throttle and it’s fine. Springs recently replaced, wheels refurbed, brakes ok, any ideas please?

Update...

 

Had 4 wheel alignment done. Rear offside was out. Has improved things greatly but still there to a lot lesser extent.

 

Will look at engine mounts on next service.

Thanks for that, there’s no other symptoms of clutch related issues, gear changing etc is smooth with no slipping,, is there anyway of confirming that the DMF is on its way out?

Slow speed, too high a gear, hard acceleration.

 

You'll soon then know if it's the DMF.

 

It's quite possible to experience the symptoms of a worn DMF (vibration / judder), with no other symptoms.

especially when the car is cold, then the DMF is definitely on the way out. 

On mine, the noise went away when the engine was warm. 

 

Didn't have any symptoms like yours, though. Has to be said, my flywheel wasn't horrendous when we took it out. Certainly, failure wasn't imminent. 

I did the job ASAP, just to be on the safe side.
