1.2htp Coil Pack Recommendation

Featured Replies

Morning/Evening All, my other half has a mk1 1.2htp which she's had for a couple of years, paid £100 for it with 65k on the clock.

I did the coils and plugs when we got the car but it's developed the intermittent misfire again, I've just swapped a coil we keep in the boot for when this happens(in a petrol station car park).

Is there any brand of packs that you recommend?

I've used the £25 ones from Euro Wrong Part and they don't seem to last.

Also, this time it seemed to blow when she went to pull away up a hill in second, seems unrelated but could this cause the packs to fail under the extra load?

Can't really link the 2 in my head but you never know.

Not sure which brand to suggest, but 'EWP' gave me a chuckle; thanks.

Heat is almost certainly a factor in degradation/failure of these items, so make sure the radiator fan(s) is/are working properly. Seems improbable that fans are seeing much action at this time of year though, if you're in the UK. Does the coolant temperature sit reliably on 90, never exceeding?

Is it a 6-valve or 12-valve, and what year?

Hi Wino, it's a 2003 12v.

Occasionally it will run lumpy on start-up from cold(not necessarily cold weather) but shut it off and start it again and it usually goes away.

That could be quite a significant observation, but it's too late for my brain this evening.

Ever replaced the coolant temperature sensor? Does it sit at a steady 90 on the gauge after a couple of miles?

Nope. Never replaced the sensor as the gauge sits steady at half on the gauge so never thought it to be an issue.

Delphi make decent coil packs but none of them last forever.
