Cruise control

Featured Replies

While I’m at it, how does this work?

no I can’t find the manual

http://www.skoda-auto.com/services/owners-manuals

Just need to pick the car and the right year.

If it's standard cruise, switch it on with the switch on top of the stalk, press the set button when at desired speed. The top button or the brake will cancel it. Pressing the rocker up or down will increase or decrease speed by 1mph per press. Reset will re-engage cruise at the last set speed.

It takes a little getting used to ( not as easy as some systems I've encountered), but well worth the effort to learn and from thereon, you'll use it as often as possible, flicking the switch on / off  approaching bends (which saves braking) , increasing / decreasing your selected speed as needed, and importantly, keeping on the right side of PC Plod in areas he monitors !

Cruise switch is probably the most used switch in my car(s).

Normal system.

Could not stand the ACC fitted to a loan car I had for a few days.  Wore myself out always battling with it and wondering how much I could / couldn’t trust it.

I've got ACC on mine and generally love it. When I've driven hire cars in the past with normal cruise, I've always felt like I was consistently increasing and decreasing the speed as traffic conditions changed. ACC does away with that - just set at the max speed you want to go and let the car get on with it.

+1

I've had several cars with CC but the Octavia is my first with ACC - I'll never buy a car with normal CC again as it's just so much more relaxing to drive without having to keep messing about with the cruise speed setting.

Does it have 2 left stalks or 1?

2 -> ACC. Because it needs to have speed up/down as well as follow distance increase/decrease

1 -> CC where the controls for CC are on the indicator stalk

ACC all the way for me. Just set and forget, find a car that is driving at constant speed and just follow them. I trust it so much I only make sure the car in front doesn't change lane. I've had a few quick decelerations on the motorway while using ACC and it managed it brilliantly, just need to leisurely apply pressure to brake pressure when red alert flashes up.

Actually, I have to say with ACC and front assist, I feel safer when following another car. Because if the other car brakes, my car brakes. When not following a car, if there is emergency ahead and the car beyond radar range is stopped, the front assist system may not even pick it up! (to avoid confusion with parked cars)

Personally, I want as much assistive tech as possible. I only want to watch over the car. :D

Just the one left stalk, so it’s safe for me to assume that I don’t have ACC then lol

I’ve got front assist, and it has come in handy a couple times already! I mean I keep a safe distance, but you can’t account for other drivers plain stupidity tbh

I'm in 2 minds about the CC and using it, this car has cost me a grand since I bought it! I haven’t even had it 4 weeks yet!

how can I tell (beforehand) if the CC system hasn’t been abused?

CC on these cars is "just" software - there's no additional hardware to abuse B)

I love the cruise, would never have a car without it. What I really miss from my Mercedes is a speed limiter. Such a handy feature!!!

Couldn't agree more altho my experience with a speed limiter is not in a Merc but a Nissan!
