Roomster reviews please

Featured Replies

Currently own 2 skoda's and love the brand but looking to change my Octavia estate and have been thinking about a roomster,I'd love a yeti but funds won't stretch, looking at a 2010/2011 in the year and hopefully a 1.9 pd again ( my Octavia is on 215k and has been fabulous ),

a bit concerned about the panoramic roof that I've seen on a lot of roomsters....has anyone any roof leaking or any other common problems.

thanks for looking

We have had our Roomster for getting towards 5 years, it is a an 08 car with now 145K miles and it is still fantastic. Not sure what I would want to replace it with if time came to do so.

There has been no issues with the panoramic roof, we love ours for the amount of light it brings into the car, no hint of any leaks and I have never seen anyone report any leaks. Some may have a concern about extra heat from the sun in the summer but even in the heat of last summer I can say the car was any hotter than I would have expected from any car left out in the sun as the glass is properly coated to reflect the heat.

I've had two Roomsters with pano roofs.  The pano roof transforms the car.

No problems with roof leaks as the glass is fixed like the windscreen.

My biggest problem with the Roomster is that Skoda no longer produces it.

Best car I've owned in 50 years of motoring.

Five years on and no problems with panoramic roof or anything else. Boot capacity in the Roomster is bigger than the Yeti so a win win.

Only panorama roof problem I have seen mentioned relates to the rather feeble catches that hold the blinds closed.

Never been a problem for me cos I hardly ever close em!

I had a 56 plate 1.9 diesel "3" up until last year and loved it. Panoramic roof was fantastic with no leaks or problems, engine ran like a sewing machine and only needed yearly servicing. Ran it for 4 years and the only fault was the brake switch which took all of 30 seconds to replace. Great economy as well even 4 up fully loaded plus a roof bag on top! Could even fit a full drum kit in the back with just the middle seat removed. Find a low mileage one and look after it and you'll have miles of enjoyment. Part exed it for a 62 plate 1.4 tsi 7 speed DSG Octavia estate and thats great as well.

Hi

Had my Roomie about five weeks now. I found it had the problem with the drivers door wiring loom' From what I have have read this is a problem across the vw range not just Skoda Roomster.

Fitted a new loom and is now ok . Lucky that I could do this my self to save cost. Its good on fuel drives lovely and is comfortable.Lots of space. I got the petrol because of the attack on diesel cars these days. This engine does not have a cam belt (bonous) dont know about other engines.

I have read a lot of posts on here. Have done some preventative work after reading. Like radiator grill fitted mesh to stop stones. Used silicon spray (WD40) on electric window guides.Lots of information on here which is brilliant. I know I have only had it five weeks but love it.

Had our Roomster 6 years,  great car, no intention of changing it

Never heard of any leaks with the roof, it is bonded, not opening.

However the blinds will occasionally spring open going over speedbumps as the catches to keep them closed are quite weak

Never broken down,  never left us stranded, (although for completeness, did have to put spare wheel on once, as some cretin had left some jagged metal in the road causing a puncture)

Thanks all for taking the time to answer.

we've had our 1.9 roomster3 for the last 3 years / 40,000 miles , the glass roof is fine doesn't leak , we have replace the drivers door wiring loom , and its looking like I need to replace the osr door lock mechanism other than basic servicing / brakes  it been a good car other than when the main wiring harness melted

There is a Skoda fix for the roof blind catches springing open over rough ground or under braking ...

It involves 4 magnets and 4 plastic pins.

Costs lots and I reckon some superglue and 4x ring neodymiums (like the Skoda fix uses) from

e-magnetsuk would do the trick for considerably less !
