Skoda second hand

Featured Replies

Well that was a waste of time I took my car in to the local Skoda dealer to have the radio look at I thought I have awarranty and then I was told I have to pay 70/170 dinostic charge I think I keep to the CD

So do you have a warranty, what kind of warranty, and if you pay the diagnostics and there is a fault the warranty covers are you going to get your money back,

and have you bought the car recently and the radio was not working or just stopped working?

No if I pay the dinostic I won't get the money back I only had the  car about a week the warranty came with it the it's full Skoda warranty for second hand cars I feel very disappointed over it

  • I got my Skoda 2nd hand and it needed some warranty work. I was advised I "may" have to pay for the cost of the diagnostic check even though it was a "known" fault, (rear wiper motor), however in the end I was not charged, (and they replaced the motor)....

Did you read the full T & C's of the warranty at any time?

And perhaps if you gave us some more information, like what age and specification the car is, what the unit is and what the fault is someone might point you in the right direction. At the moment we have no details.

How old is your car, Derek?

My second Roomster was 18 months old when I purchased it from a Skoda dealer.  At 20 months old, a minor electrical fault developed.  Then just before the car was three years old, a fault developed in the centre rear seat belt.  The dealer fixed both faults f.o.c. under Skoda's three year warranty.

You say you have only had the car a week, my suggestion is you go back to the dealer, and ask for copy of the comprehensive checklist if it is a Skoda warrantied car.

If the fault existed (or was occurring) at time of sale the dealer needs sort it out, under the consumer sale regulations.  (Unless they specifically stated they were selling with the known fault) as that would have been in a reduced price

Also under the regulations it is upto them to prove the fault did not exist at time of sale (not for you to try and prove it did), hence if they didn't check, its automatically their problem.    Basically the new laws reversed the burden of proof onto the trade seller.

If they insist on you paying for diagnostics, remind them that they will still be paying for the repair, and you could sue them in County Court for the cost of the diagnostic check and repair if you have to go elsewhere

I have got in touch with the dealer at Swindon he said he going have word with his manager about it I'm still waiting for a reply my car is 2014 it's only done 30000 miles I live in London so I will wait and see what happens thanks for all your reply

With a car of that age it will not have been sold under the Skoda Approved Used Car scheme, as that only applies to cars under 3 years old. Therefore it will have been sold with a dealer supplied Used Car Warranty. They can be very different and from what has been said so far what has happened is quite normal, especially where the warranty was not sold by the servicing garage.

And I ask again,
What model car is it?
What unit is faulty?

EXACTLY what is the fault?

My 2014 car suddenly stopped getting radio unless I was in a very strong transmission area. Dealer just said no fault as it woreked ok in Leeds. However 50 miles South nothing at all. Personally I think the aerial had failed and it could just about pick up a signal close to a transmitter. As it was a lease car and going back shortly after I gave up. It worked when collected as in Leeds still.

Skoda Approved Used Cars can obviously be older than 3 years old and out of the Manufacturers Warranty, but they do get a Warranty.

Not a Dealers Warranty, one bought and paid for and one that actually VW are the Underwriters of.

Just read the T&C's of it, and Exclusions.   But then a Dealership should be doing checks and selling cars without faults.

It's Skoda warranty and I've some good news from the dealer he phoned me tonight he told me put the car in again and get the garage to phone them and will come to agreement to pay for the dinostic check my problem is will the dinostic test show what the problem is the radio name is Bolero

Was it the dealer or someone from the Service Desk like the Service Manager?

They can just sort the issue that should have been sorted before you got the car and give you a courtesy car if you want one while the Technician checks it out.

The trouble is I'm in London and the dealer is in Swindon and the garage I took the car told me they had no car available all want is the radio to work has it should do I've never had this trouble be for and I've had 5 cars before this one the last one was a VW Turan it was a great car 52 miles per gallon only problem was it was diesel and in London in April you will have to pay 12.50 and every day driving the poor man off the road

If this is the Skoda Approved Used Car Warranty and not a third party one then ANY Skoda dealer can deal with it. It does not need to be returned to the selling dealers so I fail to see why you are being given the run-around.  I've had warranty claims dealt with by different dealers to where I bought the car, and both my Yeti's were bought under the Approved Used Car scheme.

And I'll ask again, exactly what is wrong with the Bolero unit?

It keeps on losing its signal I noticed it was doing it on the way back from Swindon I thought it might need tuning in at the London area the sound keeps on cutting in and out just like if the Arial not connected property I just don't understand how it was not pick from the owner he or she must have noticed it the problem is the Arial is not in the warranty

Yes the aerial will be covered by the warranty, and I don't know what diagnostics they are going to do on that, as the aerial in itself won't produce any error codes. What can happen is that corrosion can get into the threads on the bottom of the aerial, and the simple cure for that is to unscrew the mast, clean the threads and screw it back. There have also been reports of water ingress into the aerial mounting, but that only seems to affect the sat nav equipped aerials

I did look at the Arial but I don't know if it unscrew I don't have a satnav in this model I will go and have a look again thanks for the advice

The mast unscrews from the base. If it has never been done they can be a bit "tough"!
I take mine off every now and then and give it a little smear of silicone grease.

I got it off thanks I don't think it mad much difference I've got to take it in on Wednesday but garage I'm taking it won't let the other Skoda dealer pay them so I've got pay and claim it back but I was told from the dealer I'm taking it to it should be down to the dealer in Swindon to pay for it I mentioned it to them and I was told let's wait and see what the garage comes up with

Sorry but something isn't making sense here, so can you clarify a few things, please?

Did you buy the car from the Skoda dealer in Swindon?
Was the car bought under the specific Skoda Approved Used Car Warranty Scheme or some other warranty scheme?
What paper work did you get for the warranty?
Is the garage you are taking it to another Skoda dealer?

If the you are dealing with 2 Skoda dealers AND it was bought under the the Skoda Approved Used Car Scheme then I would suggest getting in touch with Skoda UK and talking to them about this.

Good Morning Mr Faulkner,

Thank you for your email.

With regafds to diagnosis costs these should only be at your expense should a claim made aganst your warranty  not be approved.

This is stipulated in your policy booklet which we have attached for your reference Sir. Please refer to page 7 under the 'what is not covered' section where it states the following:

Any diagnostic costs, other than the
reasonable costs of diagnosis should a claim
for a defective component be valid under
this cover.

Only in the event that the claim is declned would diagnosis costs remain at your charge.

Although you must give the Skoda garage authority to carry out a diagnosis they should not charge you for this until a decison has been made with regards to your warranty claim.

in order for the garage to submit a claim they need to carry out a diagnosis to identify the cause of failure, once they have established this our team will assess the claim which they submit via an internal online computer system.

We hoipe this clarifies the claims process for you with regards to the diagnosis required.

The repairer can contact us at any time if they require further clarification also

Regards,

Matthew

Škoda Warranty Customer Services.

I hope answer all your questions

What is the title of this booklet you have received?
And have you shown that letter to the repairing garage?
And is that garage also a Skoda dealer?

That's not a warranty, that's just a letter explaining the Ts & Cs around the diagnostic charge.  It does say that the warranty booklet was attached to the e-mail, though it's not uncommon for people to forget to add attachments before pressing "send" (the sender of that e-mail seems to have dashed it off in a bit of a hurry so it wouldn't be a massive surprise if that also made that common mistake).  If they did forget then you can always e-mail them back and ask them to send it.

(I note that Outlook in Office 365 does, at last, pop up a wee dialogue box if you press "send" on an e-mail which contains the word "attached" or similar.  Only ten years or so after I thought of it...)
