Mind blowing problem

Featured Replies

So this is the story: I’ve just bought a Skoda Octavia vrs 2.0 vrs petrol 2006 from this lovely lady who’s husband passed.  I bought it knowing there’s a fault she start  intermittent  Starting problem happens now and then , so I thought I might be able to sort it lmao, bought it took it 200meters it felt rough as hell then died on me turning but didn’t start, Some bloke came to me hooked it up and cleared the 13faults drove home lovely! Parked it up next day show it to my dad , started fine let it run for abit , put my foot on the  Accelerator and it died!! Tried to start it and it didn’t turn over tried again and again ,no luck. Looked at the old paper work the lady had the same problem 2013 skoda replaced relay 644, and 2019 skoda said needs a ecu (£2000!) ya right! She then took the ecu and got it tested by a garage who said they couldn’t find a fault ! Bere in mind this lady took on a round trip of 400miles without a issue , :/ can’t be that bad ! , its had a new battery had it looked at today by a tech guy who said it was  mechanical said it was the flaps in the manifold ! Got a  mechanic To look at it today he said the tech guy was full of **** coz why does it start after its been reset ! , it’s like the car is wanting to start but can’t because it’s not getting the fuel, Skoda said it might be that ?? So where does all this leave me ??  I just don’t know. Any experienced people out there who can advise?

Got a few fault codes
P0123
U0121
U0151
U0104
P1602
P1564
P0688
P1531
P0033
P0243
P2146
P2149
P0321
All modules 01314

Who can beat that ??

Get it to a Skoda specialist, and pay them the money you saved on it to get it running.

They already looked at it said new ecu.... crazy price the lady had it tested ecu showing no faults

Sounds like you have no other options, You bought it knowing the issue, I’m guessing you reviewed the paperwork before parting with your cash. Bite the bullet and get it sorted.

Sounds like a random as anything electrical fault. If you've got time on your hands, check all the multiplugs are on properly, no corrosion and the terminals are tight, and check for any damage in the wiring loom. Make sure all the fuses and relays are pushed in and the terminals are getting a decent grip.

Tiresome as anything to do, but it's free.

If I were to stab at a guess, I'd be thinking fuel pump or wiring to it, but that's a stab with no particular experience of these cars.

Thanks stevestruck, I was assuming it was as easy as my Astra mk4, , boi was I wrong lol I’m really hoping it’s a relay if not a new ecu (second hand if it’s possible to do )

I’m normally on the ball but as it was a old lady I felt like I trusted what she told so I didn’t really look at them nor test drive it , not even checked under it :/

Moral of this story never buy a used car from a little old lady because she has made you look a right charlie and is enjoying the wad of cash you gave her.:blush

ya Great Yarmouth

I'm also in great yarmouth

I can pop over and have a look if you want?

Whenever I see a car advert and read is has a fault but it will be an easy cheap fix they just haven't got "insert excuse here"round to sorting it I always think yeah right and click the back button.

Most of them fault codes are (lost signal codes). P602 is battery removed/disconnected fault code.

Not going to get no where with misleading codes.

Clearing fault codes first, start car (if start) drive if possible for 10 mins then read codes. See what you end up with.

If all them codes come back (which I doubt) there's massive power loss somewhere going to ecu or even from it.

As for relay 644 that's actually the relay number not what it functions there maybe 1 or 2 644's.

It is a multifunction relay so maybe changing that does control a few of your fault codes.??

Whip them out and replace.

Worth a try

I’ll try this relay is what happens n let you , it’s even me a massive headache I should of maybe click back , I just got a quote from ecu doctor he said 300£ for another ecu .. which is good longs that is the problem he said if it isn’t I could send it back for 80£  ...thing was the ecu got tested a the place couldn’t find a fault at the time :/

@Pattison - Not being funny, but is the battery charging properly? As a quick test, does the battery light come on when you switch the ignition on? If not, then I'd suspect the actual problem is with the alternator control wires and not the ECU.

My money is on rodent damage, chewed through a loom or two. Locate ECU, first check the connector for corrosion or someone's ham fisted attempt at reconnection leading to pin damage then work your way down the loom along the spurs etc. looking for damage caused by those uninvited visitors. Poo droppings and chewed piping might be evident too.

Guys!!!!! Guess what ..... I’ve fix it

It was a relay 664 cost £20.63 thank you so much for your help guys

Good stuff mate. Great when it's a cheap fix.

The only time I have had an intermittent fault on a car (SEAT Toledo 1.9Tdi) it was a relay. Car kept cutting out when driving and garage finally believed me when the service manager tried to drive home after work in it and it broke down 5 times LOL. Glad you got it sorted cheaply.

I hope it’s the end of that , I just need to cover the ecu somehow

Hi @Pattison I know it is a while since you have fixed this, but do you still remeber what was the position/location of that relay you have changed ? I have a similar problem with my Octy ( 2011) where I get 01314 on most of the modules. The car starts sometimes fine and has no error but when it has the problem, it comes up with a message "Error: Stability Control" . Now, I have checked all the fuses and they all look fine to me. But when this problem shows if I try to read with VCDS the ECU I can't reach it. It has to be then something on the ECU power lines and after scrubbing the internet looking for someone with a problem that is as close as possible to mine yours seems to be as close as it gets. I am also sure I didn't see any issues related to the wheel speed senors on my car so it has to be ECU power and as it happens only sometimes, I imagine it's a realy that is on the way out but I can't figure out which relay is that.

Warm Regards,

Misujr
