Rapid battery in boot

Featured Replies

Evening everyone.

i have put a deposit down on a 65 plate rapid sport se and noticed that the battery is in the boot is this correct.

its the 1.6 diesel version

The battery is in the engine compartment

I have a vague recollection that it is in the spare wheel well in certain models. I've had a 1.2 & 1.0 which both had the battery in the engine bay so that would only leave the 1.4 and diesel models

Just spotted this in the instruction manual:

Vehicle battery
 Introduction
The vehicle battery represents a power source for the motor to start and for
the supply of electrical consumers in the car.
Depending on the engine, the vehicle battery is either in the engine compartment
or the luggage compartment.

Yes, this is correct. The smaller petrol engines have the battery in the engine bay, the larger 1.6 diesel has it in the boot as there is no spare space for it up front.

Thanks guys.

its the larger of the 2 tdi engines so that makes it clear that battery should be in the wheel well in the boot.

Have a rapid spaceback 1.6tdi se tech and the battery is under the bonnet. I do have a full sized spare so that may be the reason.

What year is your car? Changes to the engine line-up and configuration in the facelifted models could have altered the need to move the battery to the boot in later 1.6 diesels.

This makes the car pretty useless from my point of view, one of its selling points - an important one to me - is the availablility of a full-sized spare AND SOMEWHERE TO PUT IT! (My 2014 1.6tdi has the spare where it should be)
