Will a remap remove emissions update

The Yeti I'm going to see tomorrow has had the dreaded ecu update, will a tuning box over write  it. Or

is a real remap required? This update VW done apparently reduces torque and causes more regens as I understand it.

Any advice gratefully received as I'm travelling a few miles and have no wish to waste my time, I do want a Yeti but if

its going to be a pain I'll buy a Golf. Need a car for work asap.

I had mine rolled back to pre fix by UNIT18 , later I had it remapped .

A remap does remove the fix.

A tuning box wont as it doesn't rewrite the software in the ECU.

Having said that regens are dependent on your driving style if pottering about mine can be as low as 100miles between regens, Driving long distances fast i tend to see 200miles plus. Monitored by VAGDPF.

A diesel golf will be the same if it has the same engine.

A "tuning box" cannot over-write anything, as it sits externally to the ECU.
You require a complete re-map to remove the "fix".
And I'm not sure why you think a diesel Golf will be any different, as they use the same engines as the Skoda so will also be affected by the "fix".

It depends on the tuner.

You can remap both the fixed and unfixed software versions. Assuming you remap a fixed version, it'll still regen more often.

You should check that the tuner can both roll back the fix and then remap it.

I recently sold my 110bhp 2.0L 2014 diesel Yeti. Peak torque and bhp remained unchanged by the mod, but I believe mine kicked in at slightly higher revs resulting in slightly higher fuel consumption. I still managed 48/52 on the 100hr trip computer and a true 60mpg brim to brim was possible by keeping to 55/60 mph. Regens did appear to be a little more frequent. I had the dpf filter come on once in 5yrs and 35K miles of happy ownership. Do not be put off by a "Fix" and assume you have to remove it.

I agree with Eriba and believe reported problems with the fix may be somewhat exaggerated. I am not convinced that mapping 'specialists' know better than the original system designers. For my part, I run a TDI 170 2013(almost always on VPower or Ultimate fuel,) which has had the fix, probably a couple of years ago. The car is now on 58,000 miles. Touch wood, I have not seen any problems with the AGR / DPF systems, and would not even know how frequently it performs regens. The car is used for mixed driving, although for very short trips I tend to use my wife's petrol car. However, my Haldex pump has recently shown the 'open circuit - intermittent' code - but that is another matter which has been discussed extensively in other threads. Why, oh why,  do VW group not acknowledge the existence of the filter? !!!!!!!!!!!! (Rhetorical question.)

Mappers don't have to know better than VAG to know that $bloke(tte) want different compromises in their map to those made by VAG.

I was offerred a remap by the tuner who came to reverse my 2010 2.0crs 110 S 4x4 Yeti @ 76,000mls, just over three weeks ago, but I declined the remap to higher power as I wanted to compare before and after performance, MPG ect. at stock settings

Up until last October I was commuting from N Wales to Newbury twice a month, and during those months of ownership with the fix in place, the regen light would appear perhaps every 6 weeks, when I would carry out the on road regen procedure.

MPG was never better than 42/44mpg with a VERY light foot, and 40mpg towing my trailer at max 60mph. I did used to have to use the gearbox more frequently when towing compared to my old Mk 1 1.9 TDI Octavia estate, so torque on the Yeti not so great pre-fix.

When I finally moved South permanently, the regen light would appear every 10 to 14 days just pottering around

Since the reversal to 9971 FRF, the difference in torque and power is quite dramatic. this car struggled to pull away on the level in second, (such as rolling to near stop at a roundabout) without higher than normal rpm, whereas now no problems as will even pull away in second at tickover from rest, (not something I normally do), but will also now happily navigate a fast, clear roundabout in third gear.

The engine feels looser/livelier, and wants to "sing" compared to the "old man's car" feel it had before... it is now far more fun to drive   :) :) :)

I have not towed the trailer yet since the reversal, nor had an extended run, but so far no regen light, though I will now give the Yeti a good blast down the A34 or M4 every three weeks or so. ...  as someone on here said recently... "drive as if you have stolen it ... :)

MOT yesterday and emissions are excellent @ .05 ?

I do wonder if some Diesel Yeti's/other VAG cars are affected worse than others by the emissions fix, or perhaps the higher powered models do not "feel" so affected as the 110bhp cars ? ? ?

I have never, ever, seen a regeneration light in 130k of driving diesel Yetis over 9 years??? 4 years in a 110 2wd, followed by 3 years in a greenline, and now approaching 2 years in a 150ps, so varied experience.

If I had to carry out an extended drive every 6 weeks to clear this warning I would be gettting very concerned.

My wifes euro 5 fabia doing under 4k a year for the last 5 years, with the 1.6tdi and the same emmision system, has also never had this warning come on!

My 40,000 mile 2 1/2 year old 66 plate SEAT 2.0TDI 150 ps SCR /DSG is now running about with the Clogged DPF light on for 4 or 5 days between doing long runs.

It used to come on after maybe 5 days of 3-4 mile short cold trips a few times a day.

Now it can do it after a couple of days.

Likely due to the AdBlue cheat SEAT / VW had which has it sipping AdBlue.

Not bothering having anything done it will just get used for longer trips and get handed back later this year.

Pity the person that buys it from whatever dealer gets it at auction.

Pity for many that will be buying these Euro 6 TDI's out of Manufacturers Warranty.

If I was doing lots of short runs I wouldn't have a diesel!

In 35k+ miles in this Yeti I have yet to see a DPF light, I guess its the way I drive ;)

Mine has stood for the last 4 days as VAGDPF said that it was due a regen and I was going to do lots of short trips <3miles so I used the wife's petrol Rav4 whilst she was at work.

As for difference between fix or no fix, on my 140 it was very noticeable once I had the fix removed so not just on the 110.

I have the 140bhp version which had the fix when i bought it and used to do regens regularly, i must admit i do lots of short journeys, but since i got it rolled back it hardly does regens and it has gained the torque lower down and is miles better to drive, I used a company from Basingstoke to do the roll back, but since then I have had it chipped so now has over 190bhp and shed loads more of torque
