Opinions on damaged front bumper on my brand new car

Featured Replies

Like the bumper is getting then put onto the donor car.

You should see how they do repairs at the end of the production line, anything from that scratch to a sideswipe from a fork lift or "fell off the back of the transporter", - factory finish it technically is but no different to the repair I am currently doing outside blowing in metallic paint in the high winds.

And even with all the robotism and protective elements its still a surprising proportion that get pulled back for rework, those that they find of course, damage will still occur during transport or while parked at the dealers.

I did see, as a Car Sprayer & Refinisher i did Transit damage repairs and warranty work.

Do you still have your piece of cardboard for reducing the overspray or was that only for top end jam jars?

Masking? - why the feck would we do that?

Sounds like outstanding service from the dealer concerned. I'm actually amazed they are going to those lengths when a localised repair done well would be as good as new.

What they say they will do and what they actually do do may be totally different, remember this is 2019.

A good body shop can repair that in next to no time, no dismantling necessary, just a skilled bodyshop person with the right workshop equipment. Quite frankly I doubt this brand new donor car exists and as for swapping bumpers, well, the bumper will need repairing anyway. Not going to throw that one away. No guarantee that a donor bumper will match colour perfectly either.
