Inspection is 9400mi or 297 days BUT Oil change in 1300 mi or 30 days?

Featured Replies

Maybe old fashioned, but id be changing oil, and oil filter, every 10k miles, or every 365 days, regardless of what the computer/skoda say.

Fuel Filter every few years, air filter whenever its filthy, and timing belt every 5 years or 70k miles. Cant seem to go far wrong following that, and even a £350 service including all the filters would be value for money, considering the issues it could prevent.

1st service today, so just oil and filter change + "inspection". I've switched over to fixed oil service as I do lots of short runs. Car 14 months old and at under 12,000 miles.

Cost £198. Wow! Service desk claimed they used over £100 worth of oil hence the cost. I queried why the Skoda website, when trying to book with car Reg, quotes £175 for 1st service. Online customer service told me because my car was  on "flexible" service the franchise can change what they like. The garage I used would not agree to this statement and just stressed my car uses very expensive oil. They left a bottle with 100ml left in my car door pocket and it was Volkswagen VW engine oil Longlife IV 0W20.

When I asked about next year's oil change cost, which I thought was being advertised as £99 on Skoda website under "fixed" service, the service manager flat out said no it would cost £198 again. And in fact it would cost more as I would have to pay for year 2 inspection. License to print money!

Utter rubbish from the dealer. Your car has 5.7 litres of oil from empty to refill. Dealers typically charge £12 per litre for Castrol Edge but I recently bought 5 litres of Mobil 1 Long Life for £48 from Halfords, do the sums something doesn't add up.

Dishonest robbing barstewards.

They could have done the £99 Oil Service even though the car is not 3-10 years old.

2.0 litre car, they charge the same if they are a 1.2 litre taking 2.8 litres or a engine taking 5.7 litres.

Servicing on website never changed and there are lots of cars now that left the factory with VW508/509 so 0w 20 FS LL.

Some dealers want £17 a litre for that.

Skoda / VW even say that there might be a slight deterioration in emissions might be higher if VW504 / 507 is used.

(that was then cheating the WLTP legally rather than the oil Diesel in Engine Oil grey area....)

Oil & Filter and no MOT required, and a look see and report.

The £169 service is enough and they still get their profit.  & a chance to upsell.

Online customer service chat clearly stated that because Skoda is a franchise a dealer literally has the discretion to charge what they like.

Service manager could not stop himself from stating my car is a 245 VRS so uses the most expensive oil and any prices I'm reading on the Skoda website is for a "standard car that is 3yrs old".  When I pushed back and said the  booking area quoted me £179 and why was my bill £198 he just kept stating the oil was expensive, over £100s worth, EU emission rules, yadda yadda.

Save to say I will no longer use this dealer.

Its no doubt the same Fuchs Quantum Long life iii 504/507 oil they use in 95% of services/cars. They buy in at about £2.50 per litre plus vat which they claim back.

You should ask him what this expensive oil is? Manufacturer name and specification. Bet he hesitates....

They left part of a bottle of VW508/509 0w 20 FS Long Life.  Surely not to deceive.

That would be expensive if opening 6 bottles, and not Fuchs Quantum Long Life III VW504 / 507.

A bit much if dealers are servicing cars using litre bottles.  They will be needing to get in lots.

@JimmyUK

What is the bottle, and can you check the date on it.

I hope not the going out of date stuff that Audi dealers were punting for £7 a litre delivered.

EDIT,

i see you said a VW bottle.

Check the date on it please.

@Skoffski, as I recall an earlier thread, everyone jumping up and down on me  frantically saying dealers only use TPS (VAG) supplied Fuchs Quantum oil. Whether Long life iii or iv the price difference is about a tenner for 20 litre tub.

Fuchs oil advisor says long life iii for VRS DBLA engine, Quantum oil advisor says Long life iii or iv.

Hopefully they didn't fill 5litres from their bulk tank of 504 oil and topped off with a litre bottle of 508.

If I were the dealer principal, I would be asking WTF the service department were buying oil in 1 litre bottles for.

To the OP, check the slam panel near the bonnet latch for a factory installed label. I have one with oil spec 504/507 on my 2018 150ps 1.4tsi. Maybe yours has something with oil spec

Updated - after speaking with Skoda customer service and them "investigating' my "concerns":

- regarding the price I paid being higher than advertised its because they used "high-performance oil' which costs more..........

- regarding my query about bottle having a date of 2016 on it and my "concern" they have used old oil, this date is not expiry date but fill date and oil "does not expire".....

I was not impressed with either of these answers and made it clear this was not satisfactory information so they chose to calm me down by offering to pay for my next service. So at least I got that. It still leaves a sour taste about the attitude and practices of individual dealers but at least customer services are professional and helpful.
