Rear Shocker

Featured Replies

Bouncing car so NS rear needs replacing.

1J0 513 025 AQ is the part number I have. £30 SACHS from the bay.

Do both sides at the same time I guess

Not sure if I need dust cover kit or bolts?

Any one advise

Yes, do both sides.

Are they definitely octavia shocks though? Not mk4 golf being sold as octy? Need to be sure or they will still be bouncy due to weight difference, same if you do springs at same time.

New bolts is always a good idea... keep them fresh and they may shear with age taking them off..

Dust covers... what stae are existing ones in?

When I replaced mine last month I replaced the dust covers, bump stops, top mounts and new bolts for the top and bottom Always replace in pairs, never good practice to do just one side.

Also the top mounting bolts have a nasty habbit of spinning or seizing in their captive nuts meaning you have to drill them out and fit helicoils to restore the thread

Not sure about the dust covers as they are covered in mud, one side looks fine, I'll have to look more closely.

Thanks for the advice about the mounting bolts spinning in the captive nuts.

Not sure where to get the bolts from? I found these which look the right ones.

I would maybe pop sachs an email ask specifically about that unit being an oem equivalent for an octavia before you buy them... given the list of vehicles given is all mk4s its worth checking before you end up with a saggy or bouncy bottom.

I know its really spring rates are more fickle than dampers, but i remeber getting "octavia" dampers that felt a bit squishier than id expected.. even allowing for them being cheap..

Those nuts & bolts are the correct ones

As you can see my bump stops were non existant and the dust covers were split

I emailed Sachs who said they are the correct ones. As do AVS parts.

However Amazon state they are not the correct ones.

The bumps stops and cover need replacing, can't find the correct part nos for them.

Kit on ebay for £20. Anyone help with the part nos

I ordered the parts form three places, absorbers from ebay and the bump stops and covers also, the nuts and bolts from AVS.

Took me two house to do.

Wary about the comment about upper bolts and rupturing the nuts on the housing, but otherwise not too hard.

I asked  the garage when they could do it and they had a wait of two weeks.
