2010 Octavia 1.6TDI ELEGANCE.

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I'm looking at test driving the 2010 Octavia 1.6 TDI later this week and was hoping to lean on your experience a bit. Are there any major things to look out for with this car? It's got around 60k on the clock. Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Did you end up buying it?

To be fair, there isn't much to look for outside of the usual used car stuff, the Octavia is pretty solid.

The 1.6 TDI is a well proven and solid unit, if sometimes a little underpowered in some situations.

If possible look for one that's been on fixed service intervals (10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first), rather than the variable service interval (up to 20,000 miles, 2 years, the car decides for itself when i needs fresh oil), the oil is the lifeblood of the engine and turbo.

Check to see if its been subject the EA189 emissions fix, and it's always advisable to get the car scanned for fault codes.

Hi, thanks for responding. Unfortunately I was working away at the time and by the time I got home the car had sold! I'm keeping an eye out however my father in law may be selling his 2014 petrol 1.2 Octavia with 50k on it and a full service history. I don't know what he is going to ask for it but I imagine we can both get a decent deal rather than adding a third party. I'm keeping an open mind though and an eye on the cars coming up for sale in my area.

Cheers.

The 1.2 TSI is a great engine.

Yeah I've heard good things, I'm going to take it for a spin at some point.
