Service history - should I be worried?

Featured Replies

I managed to prise the service history of my recently-bought 3-y-o Scout out of Skoda today - and to my untutored eyes, it seems somewhat lacking:

April 2016: new

4th May 2017: 'Interval Inspection' (20,326 miles)

11th September 2018: 'Used Car MPC' (36,282 miles)

Pre-delivery to us (April 2019): undefined 'service' done by Mazda garage (where we bought it) (44,000)

I know the Mazda garage put clean oil in (at least), but could it really be the first oil change the car has had?

44k!?! That is quite high for just an oil change. Assuming the oil filter was done at the time, I'd suggest fuel, air and pollen filters done soon. And maybe an second oil change just to be sure.

Variable Service Scheme?

Past 2 Octavia's I've had have been put on Variable (2 year leases) and they only need a service every 20k/2 Years.

I'd assume that they had done services at those points, but it's lacking the detail to suggest what had been done?

I've just had along phone call from Skoda customer services, saying that, yes, there was an oil change at 20,326, and indeed another at 36,282. So throw in the one just before we bought it at 44,000, and my mind is put at rest!!

So best look to see if anything else done.

Air Filter at 2nd Major Service would be to the guidelines.  Check and see if clean / fresh.

Brake Fluid change was due at 3 years, or at least check the brake fluid for H20 content.

Pollen Filter should have been changed at 2 year maybe. Might have been done, might not.  Might be worth looking at.

DSG or Manual?

Can I ask exactly how you got Skoda to give you the service history?

Thanks

Stewart

I went onto the 'contact us' page at Skoda UK, and filled in the online form. I told them I had bought the Scout, and that I had no idea what an 'App' is. After some email exchanges, some delightful chappie rang me up and we had a long chat about it. Very good. I was banging in new straining posts at the time, so I (and my shoulders) needed a break. I didn't actually get paper copies of the services, which is what I want in the end, but enough to put my mind at rest about basics like oil changes.

You can go into any Skoda Main Dealership and they should be able to and be willing to pull up the Service, Warranty, Service Campaign / Recall Action history of the car as recorded on the system.

Press print and give you this Free Gratis.  They might ask you to prove you are the 'Registered Keeper', But Data Protection allows this, and it is not the 'Skoda Secret Service'

Or Skoda Secret Servicing organisation.

Many thanks for that.

You SHOULD be able to get the full history of your vehicle from a Skoda Main Dealer - but when I asked the dealer who sold my Octavia to me (Sparshatts of Botley) they point blank refused citing confidentiality reasons, which IMHO is ridiculous as I was asking for details of the car I owned and which they supplied to me!

Did you ask the Dealer Principal or CEO of the motor group or some Receptionist with a NVQ in answering phones?

You just let Skoda UK Customer Services know how their Official Dealerships are behaving.

& also name and shame the chancers.

I simply went to another branch of the same dealer and got the information there

I've already named and shamed the dealer in my post above

I read that. Did you let SKODA UK customer services or the dealer principal know how employees were treating customers who are trying to be sure that their property has had the correct maintenance to be safe on the road?

I certainly let the Dealer Principal know, but it made no difference :wall:

Makes a difference that others get to know about how that dealership allows employees to behave.

If they are still behaving in the same way with customers and the same employees are there someone might just put them right next time,

or some Dealership Group director will pick up on it.
