Clutch replacement on Skoda Fabia DSG

Featured Replies

Hi all

have been quoted £1250 to replace the double clutch on my SKoda Fabia 2011 DSG. Wanted to know if this is a reasonable quote. Had another quote for £1140 from a non dealership source

any advice would be gratefully received

Clutches on our mk2 vRS were replaced last year along with mechatronic unit, total bill was £3200.

Broken down, specifically for the clutches, the parts themselves come in at £585 plus vat plus fitting so it's very much down to the labour rate charged as to whether or not the quote can be bettered. It won't be far off, as our quote on mechatronic alone was £1750, when clutches were added along with a few other bits and bobs it wound up being £3200.

Make sure it is someone who knows what they are doing with these boxes even if you are going to a main dealer, make sure they have experience of working with them.

Blimey if I had to pay a bill for £3200 I would break the car.......

That price seems about normal, Have you not thought about going for a Kevlar clutch for that money?

Not the news I wanted to hear. Was disappointed that the clutch needs replacing after 8 years. Think it may be a case of driving it till it stops working

That’s not advisable lol, I’m not sure if the above prices were to get it replaced at a dealership and hence so pricey.......People are terrified to let anybody but skoda touch these boxes but believe me on other pages people have rebuilt the dq200, fitted a mech and clutch on they’re own with the specific tools needed.

It’s ok once you’re past 1st !! Has 2 quotes one from the dealer and one from a independent garage. Only £100 difference in the price. Sadly still out of my price range.

Mihjt have to run it till it stops as have been told the turbo is next. Wouldn’t be financially viable to spend all that money

@Mickmartin

until @Sittingbull gets a chance to reply.

**********PARKS Skoda HAMILTON.*************

So yes 'stealers' who farmed out the clutches and messed up the MCU and then failed the car @ the MOT required to drive it away,

but it passed the restest as it was A OK.

Yes, all prices from main Skoda dealers. Initially we were quoted £1750 to supply and fit mechatronic unit alone. Cutting a long and depressing story short, the final bill ended up at £3200 as new clutches required in addition to mech. I got the broken down figures from the final invoice. As Skoffski suggests, it was a bad experience.

Although it is possible to buy LUK Clutch kit for around £270 it's the finding someone in Scotland prepared to take on the job away from the main dealers. Similar with mechatronic unit.

One quote was a Skoda dealer the other was an independent garage specialising in gearboxes. Only £100 difference in the price. Not in a position to do it myself .

The one advantage you would have by using the main dealer is that the part would come with a 2 year warranty as standard from Skoda, and usually one year warranty on the labour.

With the possibility it also needs the turbo replacing think it’s making the car too expensive to repair

@BenV

Why would it need the turbo replaced, what is wrong with it?

It was flagged up when hey did the diagnostic apparently.

@Bevn

EDIT.

My bad, what engine is this a 1.2 TSI or a 1.4 vRS?

I thought when posting it was a Twincharger.

1.2TSI can be prone to issues with the Turbo Actuator which can be replaced.

If it Is a 1.4TSI this someplace that knows about 1.4TSI Twinchargers, or are they just reading 'Fault Codes'.

If they have no or little knowledge or experience of them maybe go where someone has.

Turbo issues are not common, infact rare with these.

Waterpump / Supercharger Magnetic Clutch can be, Spark Plugs, Ignition Coils, Sensors etc can be something needing addressing though.

Compression of cylinders as part of the possible issues.

It’s a 1.2 tai Was on the diagnostic report from the dealership

      Other Advisory items

EML on dash posible turbo charger faulty
Faults in gearbox - double clutch faulty wants replacing

Good that it was a dealership.  So the Master Tech will know all about the acuauators which are available and cost a lot less than a turbo and actuator.

They will have the TPI, know about the Turbo Shim as well.

So did your car have 'Service Campaign' 34F7 carried out since May 2014?

Synthetic Oil changed to mineral and a software update.  There should be a sticker in the boot if it had this.

Not sure how do I check? What was that for

Not sure . How do I check that and what was it for

Pinned thread at top of page on the DSG Service Campaign.

Use the VIN checker and see if outstanding on your car. If it is the Dealership should have told you.

The cars were supposedly recalled, but not all keepers were told, or wanted it done.

as to the Turbo.

Plenty threads on here if you do a search.

Thanks will check this out. What was the significance of the different kind of oil. Sorry for the questions . Am a real novice

2009-2012/13 there was internal corrosion in the DQ200's so a World Wide recall (2012) excluding Europe that VW said was not affected as not Humid, not extreme climates and such rubbish.  Yet in New Zealand all DQ200's were Recalled and got new Mechatronic Control Units fitted for free.

But they still had to do a Service Campaign in Europe because they lie.

It really does not matter if your Clutch Pack is going, but it can help you get some help from Skoda UK even though they will say not.

There was fundamental design failures, they know it and in other World Regions they extended warranties, not in Europe though.

Point is you have been to a main dealers, told there is clutch failure, so see if some Dealership has done 'Service Campaign' 34F7 already.

As it is you need to find out if the clutch packs do need replaced.

?

How many miles on the car?

Thanks will check with the dealer. There’s 77000 on the clock

Can you check your VIN on here and see if an outstanding 'Recall Action'?

& the spare tyre well to see if there is a sticker with '34F7' on it.

Hello!
What do you think about the analogue of LUK?
For cars up to 2012 article 602000100
Worth reasonable money.
Now I am thinking about installing this type of clutch.
In my country it costs £ 270 and £ 100 for a job.
