Fob Failure NO Led

Featured Replies

As above, my key has failed. I have changed the batterry, and still no LED flashing. I have tested the battery with a multimeter, and ot is good - over 3V.

Is this now a dead key, or is it recoverable? I tried searching bit only found faulty fobs with an LED flash.

Thanks for reading

All the best, Tim

Just a update: I have just checked, the fob will not operate central locking, but WILL start the car. Which I think is a bit weird.

Not sure about this in anyway, and to lazy to read the manual. 🙄

Think the key can start your car even if battery is dead.

The battery is put back in the correct rotation?

As above don't take this as wrote but I'm sure there is a short time between taking the old battery out and replacing or the key loses its coding. Did you take the battery away to a shop or something to get a new one? I think it's a reasonable time like a few minutes rather that 30 seconds or something.

You might need to go in to a dealer with the other key to get it coded.

Actually I've just thought, with no led it sounds like you aren't getting power to the board. Did you use a sharp tool to open the key up and cut something?

That's expected - the remote locking needs a battery to operate the transmitter in the key but starting the car uses a passive (i.e. no battery required) transponder in the key.

The most common problem with key fobs is the solder that hold the battery terminals on fracture and break the continuity. Have a look at where they are soldered on the board and put a very small amount of pressure on them. If you see *anything* move on the solder side then you need to resolder them.

Thanks to all.

I think I changed the battery several weeks ago (cant remeber which key!), but it worked until last week. I changed the battery again, and tested for voltage - which was fine. Batter ydefo in correctly. I am away on holiday now, so will check the other points next week.

Thanks again - all very informative.
