help, info for a new fabia please - 1.2 TSI colour edition

Featured Replies

Hi all,

the mrs is going to have a look at a Fabia 1.2 TSI colour edition  17 plate with 12K on the clock.

never having driven or owning a fabia or a Skoda petrol for that matter, anything to look out for - I assume this engine wont be affected by the timing chain/belt issues ?

from what I can see from the advert its got:

Pan roof

Bluetooth with car/apple play/smart link and DAB (no nav)

cruise

MFSW + Maxidot

stop start

Arkamys surround sound pack? - is this similar to canton ?

The 2nd Gen 1.2 TSI has a belt, and doesn't suffer from the timing chain issues that the 1st Gen 1.2 TSI did. I never had any trouble with my car in the time I had it.

The Arkamys surround pack isn't to the same standard as the Canton systems in other Skodas. Sounded fine though to my (definitely not audiophile) ears.

Thanks man,

Did you find you needed to replace any thing?, any components prone to extra wear and tear?

I've been reading about engine mounts needing to be replaced often?

What tyres are fitted from factory?

A 2017 car is still going to be within the 3 year warranty, so would be able to get most things (if any are needed) fixed free.

The 1.2 tsi was towards end of life, those last ones generally very good, so shouldn't have any problems, engine has since replaced by 3 cylinder 1.0tsi

Tyres seem to change make regularly, presumably depending on which manufacture was offering good deal at the time, for a car with 12k probably never have been changed (although might need a front-rear swap to even out the wear soon).   Fabia often seemed to get Eco summer tyres, slow wear but not the grippiest.  Will be ok, but if you intend to drive in the hills in winter, then probably want to change them for all seasons, or winters in Autumn

I had a 2014 Fabia for 2 years, (an ex rental S spec 105 DSG) never had a problem with it

You know what, I hadn't even thought about it being under warranty still 🙄

I assume the warranty is from registered date ie. 1 March 17 - 1st March 20.

Car is currently being moved from the dealer so should be looking at it Tomorrow or Wednesday.

Moving (hopefully) from a 1ltr aygo, which is honestly the worst small car I've ever driven.

I never had a fault, from new in May 2016 to handing it back in March this year.

There was some clunking, which was possibly the engine mounts. Had it looked at twice, the dealership never did anything about it and it didn't really bother me much.

Didn't buy it in the end, got there to be told there's two fault codes which they haven't checked, the osr passenger door had a couple of small dents, cracked casing on the driver mirror and cig burns on two of the seats..oh and the ad was wrong no panoramic roof ... and  amazingly after all this they said they will not move on price. .

The search continues

Had a 2016 and a 2017 1.2TSI from new. Both had serious issues with engines and gearboxes (dsg). Rejected one car. Be careful if you pursue that model. Quality of engines and gearboxes isn't the same as previous Skoda's. Many of us have had issues and it's slipped down the reliability scale according to JD Power because of those problems. Most of the VAG group cars with the same engines/gearboxes experience the same issues. Skoda couldn't fix my cars...be careful.

2015 TSI manual, 40k and never missed a beat. Manual gearbox though not sure about the DSG variants

amazingly the one we looked at is listed for sale again for more money?!

found another the same but with only 6K miles on it  looking at it on sat

I have a 1.2 litre, 7 speed dsg just hitting 72,000 km and not a problem at all.  It’s been a really enjoyable car to own.

It  never ceases to amaze me what these dealers try to get away with;eventually a gullible person will come along and buy it,and they know it.

yeah we noticed it also had a sold sticker on it recently, which has been removed this morning so probably someone else thought it was a state too!

what surprises me is in the description ( which has now had the incorrect info removed -pan roof etc.) it doesn't state anything about the multitude of dents or the burns in the seats

Possibly owned by a company or an ex rental.

If it's auto with that DSG clutch forget it otherwise my manual gear car has been fault free for four years now

the car I was going to look at sold 3  hours before I got there ....

I searched all the Skoda dealer websites around me quite a good stock of them versus auto trader/supermarkets. I ended up going newer with the 1.0tsi.
