Creaky armrest - removal?

Featured Replies

I know this is a common one so hoping someone can advise as to the procedure for removing the top leather portion to address the creaks inside?

Ah, excellent, thanks.

So there are three parts, the top cushion, middle lifting part and bottom plastic cover?

Any tips to removing the top and bottom parts?

FWIW I have the creak too. I also have cloth tape and trim removal tools ... lacking knowledge of same.

EDIT

Wrong. Nov 2018 build here, perhaps I am lucky or they did fix it. My creak is coming from the cup holder, the insert creaks when the armrest is moved sideways or the console or the insert is pushed around.

i inserted removing tool into bottom part's edge and pushed just 1mm then moved 1cm forward and again 1mm,
after two full perimeters it gave up

That's an awful creak.

If I recall correctly the heater control panel was removed, the trim around the gearstick removed in order to gain access.

I may be able to come in from the side with a staw, silicone spray and foam bolstering... lets see.

Either way be careful not to induce another creak in the process. The plastic trim around that area is all cheap poor quality material the kind Amstrad used in the 80s.

Wel thank you guys. I was fat, dump and happy. After reading this post i started noticing the creaks. Now i’m not happy anymore.

Have all you creaking armrest guys got huge arms  ? :giggle:

No more creaky armrest, now feels worthy of a BMW.

My creak was all on the bottom piece of plastic so prised it off, applied some felt pads and PTFE tape to the front tabs where is was noisiest.

Back together and lovely and solid.

Took about 15 minutes.

I also have a MY18 car and have the same creak from the cup holder.

Have you attempted this yet?

Not yet... been messing with the B pillar

Just had a skim over that, actually looks more straightforward but I'd be a little nervous poking about anywhere there is an airbag!

The airbag is actually tucked up under the headliner, so you actually are not really in contact with it.

Fair enough. Might look into this sort of thing once the car is out of warranty but at the moment I find the cabin significantly quiter than my Mk II Octavia so I'll leave it at that.

Airbag's won't trigger for doing anything to them. Issue would be if you some how hit the crash sensor in bad way. That would be an issue. But airbags them selfs can't trigger with doing anything to them. They require electrical current...
Crash sensors are not near airbags usually. They're inside doors, some parts of frame etc...

Hello guys!

I would like to get some help dismantling my armrest. I've managed to remove the bottom plastic part with a pry tool but I cannot find a way to get the top part off (where your arm rests).

I cannot find any image, video or description in the topic and I don't want to break it by forcing it. The closest thing I found is a MKII Octavia armrest removing video.

The top part on the video seems to have screws but in my car I couldn't find any. So I'm guessing I just need to loose some plastic "locks"?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!
