folding mirrors

Featured Replies

Just pick up the car, can folding mirrors be done on the fabia?

Unfortunately power folding mirrors aren't available on the Fabia.

not at all 😞

Don't think so, at least not without lots of DIY work! The mirrors are shared with the Rapid and the Up, and neither model has power folding mirrors available.

ah thats not so great lol 😞

Have you actually manually folded the mirrors? I doubt the width is reduced by much more than 5cm. Hardly worth the effort!

It's better than nothing! I would always push in the mirrors, as I live on a narrow street. I had one knocked off years ago in my first car, and it cost a fortune to replace. That was a power adjustment mirror but no painted cap, no power folding. Still cost me about £150 for a used mirror unit, which was a lot to me at the time (still is for some a**hole to cause £150 damage to your car and then drive off).

Power folding mirrors were actually on my list of things to have when I was car shopping! They're options on most Polo models, and that along with the extortionate price VW charge for ACC (£610) on the Polo were big factors in choosing the Ibiza.

Yeah not cheap, work for JLR and the price on them can be 700 odd with labour, seem that the Skodas dont come with as much as the Seats or vw's

Well, depends on the spec! I don't suppose that the regular non-folding power adjustable mirrors on a Skoda are any different to the same spec mirrors on a Seat, Audi, or VW. Or JLR cars, for that matter. And I'm sure there's fundamentally no difference between my mirrors and, say, an Octavia with the power folding option.

Since the VW takeover, Skodas have always been about good value. On the hierarchy of things that I want from a car, power folding mirrors aren't high up. They're definitely a luxury. The Fabia does the important things fantasticly well- it drives nicely, it's very practical, it's efficient, safe, comfortable, and in the SE trim I had was specced well enough for what I needed. When the time came to change it up I could afford a nicer car, but I have no need for the extra space, so an Ibiza with more gizmos made a lot of sense.

That £150 was just for the mirror unit itself, I fitted it myself. I did a fair bit of work on that car over the years, I couldn't afford not to! The car was a 2002 Polo, I loved it. I was very upset when my brother killed it!

how do you fold these mirrors? this is the first time I have had fixed mirrors for years. Do they move if struck by another vehicle.

gumdrop, you just push them backwards and they fold easily, although if they haven't been folded before they may be a bit stiffer to move initially.

My new Citroen has power folding mirrors and I find these just brilliant. They auto fold when I turn off the ignition and you can fold them in at anytime with the joystick on the dash. I found it necessary to fold them both in just a few days ago when traveling through a very narrow street in picturesque Hadleigh in Suffolk. There were just inches to spare each side of the car and definitely couldn't get though with the mirrors out. Flick of the joystick and they pulled themselves in and I got through with about 1" each side (yes, not kidding, it was that close). Wished my Fabia's had had that feature.

most new cars now have this, just not the fab and and few other Skodas

Yes, many of my other cars have had this feature and I have it on my Nissan 4X4 pickups too.

I had them on both Yeti I owned but only a Honda had folding when the ignition was turned off.

On my Ibiza  they fold with locking/unlocking the doors. Or you can manually fold them with the mirror adjustment thingy.

Power folding mirrors are options on most cars, but cheap superminis often don't have them. Neither do some quite expensive cars- my neighbour has a 2016 Audi A7 and his mirrors are never folded in, which is not something I'd expect on such an expensive car!

Power folding mirrors were on my want list too! All my other vehicles have them, but not my Skodas. So the Citroen C3 ticked all the boxes on that one, it has them!

  • 1 year later...

I have them on my 2011 fabiamonte carlo
