Karoq Edition - a couple of software tweaks

Featured Replies

I would like my 2018 Karoq Edition to have a couple of features enabled using the software. If there’s anyone on here in the West Midlands that can do this for me I’ll obviously be very grateful and recompense you fully, but I don’t have the kit or the know-how. Here’s what I’d like doing:-

1. Increase the Air Conditioning Power (cabin temperature not as icy cool as last car).
2. Activate the Lock/Unlock Acoustic Confirmation Chirps.

Please message me if you can help. Thanks!

I've done the 'chirp' on ours but it's quite weak and kinda gets lost in the noise made by the mirrors folding.........the increased air-con output is something I'd like.....I mentioned the air-con not being as cool as I might expect recently but there were no members with similar concerns.....I've seen reports that it might be possible on other sites but no evidence the 'extra power' option exists or indeed how to activate it..........I'll watch and wait for you to report back.

Is yours a Karoq Edition? Today during my free first service I got the dealer to activate the needle sweeps on startup but they wouldn't/couldn't increase the aircon power or activate the lock/unlock chirps (clueless! lol). They loaned me a 1.0 Fabia and its aircon was icy cold whereas my Karoq's is just slightly cooler than with the aircon switched off. They said it was working normally! I know some people on here have increased their Karoq's aircon 'power' in the software but I'd love to know if it makes the cabin cooler because, as the weather heats up, the aircon on my Karoq is poor.

No, it's a SEL......the air-con, like you mention, is little different to not having it on.......I'm going to have to do a few tests as it is claimed elsewhere that the temp from the face vents is deliberately not cold so as to not freeze the hands on the steering wheel.....but I'll add, my Golf, coming up for 10 years old, is much cooler from the vents than our new Karoq. I can get just under 4c at the centre vent in the Golf but the same vent in the Karoq won't go below 9c.

The 'chirp' thing is an easy tweak with the software and once activated it's switchable via the in-car settings screen.

The AC can be set to higher power via the menu on the AC unit and the screen.

You also need to not be in Eco Mode.. because that also cuts power.

There may also be ways to increase power via VCDS further... that I do not know.

Its against the law to have your car chirp when locking and unlocking as it is noise pollution i think it was from 2015

Yep, I have to smile every time someone in a TV drama locks / unlocks their motor, chirp chirp, almost without fail.......as for the Karoq chirp, as I mention above, it's so weak and wanting even the noise from the mirrors closing drowns it out.

I increased it in the Climatronic mode but I only use the manual mode and even with L+R set to "Lo" the cabin temperature was only mildly cool today even on full blower. I hope someone who has increased it using the VCDS software can post on here if it has improved the aircon's performance.

Ref the AC temperature.

Get yourself one of these;

If you're 'old school' use the temperature range in the English instructions (°F) .

If you're 'down wiv the yooves' use the temperature range given in the Italian(?) instructions (°C).

Whatever you use, if it is within those parameters listed, your AC is working fine. If not, then you at least have some method of proof that your AC is not operating correctly, rather than using a previous vehicle as a comparison.

Thanks, what should be the temperature of the aircon if it's working properly? The car's rotary knob goes ...19,18,17,16 then "Lo".

According to the instructions that came with the thermometer;

7.2°C - 15.5°C
(45°F - 60°F)

I've had a poke around on VCDS and run a few temperature tests today.......The fabled air-con boost........I found a setting that offers 'normal or colder' cooling operation - after running tests at 'normal' I ran the same again at 'colder'. There was a slight improvement - footwell vent wouldn't go below 6.2c at 'normal' but recorded 5.6c on the 'colder' setting.

The outer dash vents, they would not drop below 9.0c on 'normal' but with the 'colder' setting they went down to 7.9c .

Centre face outlet was much the same on both settings,  5.9c / 5.6c.

Windscreen was almost same as footwell, 6.2c down to 5.5c.

I've left the VCDS setting on 'colder' for now and I'll monitor the situation and see if anything changes / improves as the weather gets warmer.........as a comparison, my 2010 Golf parked next to our Karoq knocked out 3.2c at the centre vents today.

Module 8 - Coding 7 - Byte 12

Outside temp was 21.0c and all measurements were done on tick-over with the blower on '1'. Readings from the vents were taken with the others closed, that is to say, I used the climate control buttons to specify which outlet I wanted. Left to its own devices on 'auto' the temperatures are 2-3c up at each outlet.

Following as we test drive a Karoq recently and I did notice the AC Did not seem very strong, but didn’t have car long enough to thoroughly test.

I have have a 2015 C250 merc that I’ve also found to not run as cold — even compared to my previous merc, and or my wife’s 2009 Mazda (that thing blows out air straight from the Arctic❄️)

Ive  mentioned the lack of cooling to Mercedes numerous times and each time they check and say it’s running normally. When I have it set to 18c and the family are telling me to crank up the AC I really don’t think I agree!

So if Karoq AC Is not so powerful but there is way to reconfigure it I’ll be interested to know prior to deciding to place an order!

I wouldn't go so far as to say it can be reconfigured. As my finding seem to show, it can possibly be improved slightly but assuming 2c is twice as cold as 4c then all the real action is in those lower figures.........my Golf at 3c feels way colder than the Karoq at 6c, not unlike your Mazda no doubt.......

Reconfigure  is probably too strong a term...tweaking is more like it! I haven’t gone so far as measured temps, just gone by 'feel' alone, and yes a few degrees could make a big difference in cool temp 'feel' 👍

UPDATE - My local Skoda dealer offered to do these couple of quick software tweaks for me today and then said that that their VAG-COM software was not up to date so they couldn't do it after all! So I'm still in need of someone helping me out with this so I can get the cabin cold enough when it gets sunny again. Any offers please PM me. Thanks!

I got Carista yesterday (£15.99 Amazon, with a one month free trial) and on my 2018 Karoq Edition I have activated the gauge needle sweeps, audible beeps on locking/unlocking (both KESSY and keyfob), increased the coldness of the air conditioning (from 8.3º to 6.3º), deactivated the auto start/stop system, and enabled the show fan blower speed when Cimatronic on Auto. Easy-peasy to use, no risk, bluetooth connection to phone so no expensive cable needed. All my customisations tested and working fine. So far, so good!

Hope that temp difference also makes it 'feel' a lot colder!  I’m looking at getting the latest version of OBDeleven when release, trust that will do similar tweaks and more...good to know all works well!
