the engine does't start

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I recently had the following problems:
The car was
remained stopped for 1 month and when I wanted to open he didn't.
The driver's door light didn't flicker and I could not open it until I opened the hood and put another battery.
With the new battery, I tried to start the engine but without success.
The engine is trying to start but can't (spinning but not start).
Problems have arisen from the falling battery or there are other issues that have failing the battery?
With all consumers stopped and car armed consumption is somewhere at 0.11 ( I understand that it should be 0.06)
I checked the errors and I found this:
17811 EGR System: Regulation Divergence (is old error)
16804 Catalyst System Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold (is old error)
16725 Camshaft position Sensor (G40): Implausible Signal    (???)
00285 ABS Wheel Speed Sensor ( I changed the sensor )
00920 Heated Outside Mirrors: Driver Side /Passenger side
01598 Drive Battery Voltage
00906 Horn (H1)
00975 Heated Rear Window  (Z1)
00668 Supply Voltage Terminal 30

I know that the latest errors are occurred recently because I checked errors before changing the ABS sensor.

What are the causes of the problems?
Best regards,
Cris

Just clear all the codes and see what comes back, some of them relate to the flat battery.

Ok! Thanks!

16725 Camshaft position Sensor (G40): Implausible Signal
For this error I am more worried.

Which engine is it?

^ Says AZQ 1.2, 12v in his profile.

All errors were deleted, but it still doesn't start.

Have you tried a little tap on the EGR valve as suggested after your other post earlier?

That cranking sound doesn't seem normal to my ears, but the sound on videos often seems unlike the real thing. Does it sound abnormal to your ears?

I made an adaptation to the EGR and hit  with something metallic?

Nothing.

I removed the lid with the air filter and after I raised the flap throttle I found the blackness almost oily.

Is this normal?

If it didn't fail the adaptation then I think it must be opening and closing OK, at least some of the time.

Try to find why the quiescent current is so high, because the battery will not survive long unless that is fixed.  I think your figure of 0.06A is about 3 times too high for a healthy system, something closer to 0.02 would be my expectation, about half an hour after the car is left, locked.

I checked the battery today (3 days after) and the battery is consumed only a little (something normal because I tried to get started over repeatedly ).
I think it's a problem with the G40 sensor because the error has come up, or it's a
supply problem because I tried to start in the second gear and the car moves from the electric impulse.
It is clear that it is also a problem with the electricity, but I think it is also a supply problem.
Although I have the error below, but the
the engine management light isn't on.
16725 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): Implausible Signal
P0341 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

Should I change the sensor?

Sounds like you may have made the chain slip when you tried to start it with 2nd gear engaged.

It wouldn't make any difference, the camchain is turned by the crank irrespective of whether a gear is engaged or not, however I strongly suspect that it had slipped already just prior to the starting issue, it would likely have slipped on shutdown because the chain would tend to skip when not pulled tight by the crank as the engine stopped.

Hmm. You don't think that the engine jerking violently on its mounts as the starter tries to spin it but can't much; plus a tensioner with no oil pressure in it might cause a jump?

@crior was it the first attempted start after the new battery was installed when the gear mistake happened?

I thought the 12V engine suffered mainly from chain stretch rather than tensioner issues.

Not sure.

Anyhow, OP should check cam end slots for alignment with each other when engine is at TDC No.1 cylinder.

Abnormal cranking sound would fit with timing error too.

That sounds like an engine with no compression so I would tend agree with the above

Thanks for support!

So the sensor is OK and should not be changed.

I was afraid  about jumped chain or chain slip.

Let's see with stationary consumption how I will solve?
