Firmware and columbus map update

Featured Replies

Hi there all,

Just a quick question re updating the maps. I've downloaded this pack as mentioned in another thread to sd card..

 https://satnavupgrade.com/products/skoda-columbus-2019-navigation-map-update-package-3t0051859at

And just wanted to check if anyone has had any issues of tips on how to do this as well as the firmware.

I'm looking to do this as my boot screen is corrupted.. the skoda logo is all distorted and messed up.

Will this link also sort the firmware or will i need to download that from somewhere else first.. ?

If so can anyone point me in the direction of the right firmware software?

I suppose I'll need to update the firmware before I do the maps?

The car is a 63 plate mk 2 Superb Elegance with Columbus.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

: )

That link is for the Superb Mk3, it won't work at all on the Mk 2. IIRC firmware version 5238 or 5274 are the best all-round ones to go for. Do a search here for download locations: once you download it you will need to burn the update image to a CD and stick that in the slot in the Columbus unit. It'll do its thing from there. You may need to have a map update DVD also as sometimes a firmware update can wipe the stored maps.

Ok thanks.. I'll check what version I have re the 5238 firmware .. will i need a different link for the map update or can i find that by logging in here? http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-GB

Or can i use the maps downloaded named HIGH12_P177_EU_201920

The update portal doesn't cover the older Columbus (RNS-510) you have fitted, only the newer MIB style Columbus.

You can try reloading the software but ideally you should find out what HW type is is before trying to update it. You might also need VCDS to recode it depending on the software update used.

@Rustynuts is the man in the know about the RNS-510 style but unfortunately you're quite some distance away unless you're happy to send him the headunit.

Ok thanks so much. I think I'll wait and see how things go when it's next in for a service.. I don't want to break anything! I take it I can't then just update the maps without the firmware?

Thanks again for all your help : )

Yes you can just do maps

I just tried firmware but system had newer firmware so it ejected and I loaded map in no problems took an hour or so but is 100% now the guy I got them off showed a dealer picture but it's a burnt copy and it worked
