Smart link/car play

Featured Replies

From what I’ve heard on here my car is not compatible with smart link, as the car doesn’t have sat nav either I’m thinking a smartlink upgrade is the way to go, is there any guides that anyone knows of that will explain what I need to buy, I’d like one of the larger screens if it’s possible, but don’t want to spend an absolute fortune, pic below shows what I’ve got at the moment,

I’ve been doing a bit of reading on here, can someone confirm/correct me if I wrong, that these parts will get the job done?

eBay item numbers: 264305616150 and 401767109638

also does any have the part number for the USB plug as I see that that needs changing too

one more question, do I need to change the screen or will the current one be compatible with a MIB2 unit?

You need a 5Q0035874A Amundsen, the B revision one will not work, you should be paying about £1-140 for one of these and about £8 for a FAKRA GPS antenna from eBay. The screen you have linked is a MIB2 Bolero screen, if you want the best combo with an Amundsen you either need a 5E0919606 Pre FL Columbus 8 inch screen or a 5E0919605M FL Amundsen 8 inch screen. Both will work, expect to pay about £2-250 for one of those. You need a 5Q0035726E USB. Your current screen is not compatible with a MIB2. Once you have the right parts the radio needs to have the Component Protection removing and then I suggest you contact Pab567 on here and he will be able to sort the radio out to work :)

Cheers Sasha, just browsing eBay now, do these look good to you? Do both parts needs component protection removing?

Screen looks decent, radio could be a little cheaper but it’s not out of the ball park. Only the radio needs CP removal, the screen is just a screen.

What does CP removal cost? sorry for all the questions just want to know what it’s gonna cost all in before I start spending,

Depends on where you get it, you would need to research the cost of that in your area. Some Skoda dealers are willing to do it, some aren’t but they all could if the techs had the product knowledge.

I shouldn’t be allowed on eBay when I can’t sleep,

the screen was was cheap as there is a line of pixels missing but I can deal with that, I’ve got a mate that get parts through TPS so I’m going to ask him about the USB tomorrow, cheers for the help Sasha,

I had a screen with a dead pixel row. It’s really common on these screens. Hopefully someone will have a fix at some point. If you can live with it, it’s not so bad.

For the difference in price, I’ll happily live with it, can you set the screen to turn off after 10 seconds in the newer ones? I do that most the time anyway,

Yes, you can. If it doesn’t bother you then you will have a bargain. It is very hard to see unless you get up close, I don’t have any pics of the one I had up close but it is hard to see.

Is much coding involved, I can get access to VCDS, where did you mount the GPS antenna

You will need to send a scan to your radio installer using VCDS. I always recommend Pawel (Pab567) and he will do the rest so when the radio comes back it’ll be all coded to the car with the correct option boxes available.

I’ve already messaged pav on here but I’d thought I’d try somewhere local as well, this was there response:

Are they right? Or are they just not as good as pav?

They are probably right in that they cannot get it to work.  Doesn't mean it can't be done.  Send it to Pawel.  He is a genius with it.

Glovebox unit arrived today, hopefully the GPS antenna will be here tomorrow, I’d like to get work started so is there any guides as to where I can the antenna?

Mine is magnetic. I routed it to the dash support bracket behind the screen. Others have used the speaker grill where the CANTON centre speaker would be if the car had that option.

Sorry to slightly hijack.

Just another one on this for anyone reading, "im currently sat in skoda".

Skoda do offer a kenwood upgrade to the media system if you want the sat nav feature instead of getting the smart link activated. Its priced at £599 fitted at my local skoda.

New screen arrived, but connectors are different? What do I need to do, thought it was plug and play? image.thumb.jpg.1ce4e3636b478b3857e37b9bb7bdcb12.jpg

Cool, no need for a new plug then. Just got to wait for it to stop raining!

Got the screen and glovebox unit in, does the usb cover clip off?

You need to take the climate panel out, take the radio screen out first and then the climate panel pulls off with no tools, then the USB trim pushes down and unclips. Then the bloody thing is held in with clips that are built to hold battleships together and it’s hard to get out. Once you’ve got a thin tool in each clip it’s easy to slide out and replace the USB.
