DRL DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS

Featured Replies

i have a yeti 2011 5L with bixenon headlight. When I leave the switch on O the DRL are on. When on auto the DRL are off.

What can I do to have DRL on when on Auto

Probably needs the BCM lcode changing.

If you can get an autoscan from VCDS or similar showing the existing lcode, I can make some suggestions.

Is there a cheap version of vcds that is paired with ios phone so you can adjust stuff?

It might be worth taking a look at OBDeleven.

I've never used it but I believe it can access and recode modules. Just be wary of the guided functions as it's not always clear what they are changing.

I don't think iOS supports any bluetooth OBD adaptors, there are some WiFi versions but I've no idea what software can use them or if it's capable of coding changes.

Might be worth finding a cheap android device or checking for local members with VCDS. There are a couple of threads in the VCDS section that might help...

edit:

looks like the 'nextgen' OBDeleven supports iOS: https://obdeleven.com/shop/en/home/61-starter-pack-0758277987806.html

I'm sure my 2010 Elegance didn't display that behaviour.  Could yours have been "tampered with" by a previous owner?

DRL can be turned off in the maxidot, at least in earlier cars.

However if it is on in the maxidot, it should be on all the time unless the headlights have automatically come on?

They will be off though if you select the parking light position which a number of drivers still seem to think is legal to drive on at night!

That's interesting. How do you drive the car with the engine off? (parking light is a single side and tail, selected by turning the ignition off with the indicator on for the required side)

Or did you mean side-lights, which are legal on 30mph roads under street lights?

The DRL's are only on when the main lights are off  (switch set to 'O')

When the main lights are on Then the DRL's should be off, but the cornering fog lamps should operate one at a time when you turn the steering wheel. When you select reverse gear both fog lamps should come on.

Well that's how they worked on my old Yeti.💡💡

As I alluded to earlier, this is almost certainly down to the coding of the BCM. I'm pretty sure you can configure the car to either use DRL when the headlight switch is in the 'off' position (like the OP car) or in both the 'auto' and 'off' postilions (like my car). This is separate to turning the DRL on/off via the instrument cluster.

As soon as the OP can confirm their coding, I'll check it to confirm...

KenONeill, I'm pretty sure that kenfowler3966 means side lights when they said parking lights. It's the same lights just different functions :)
