sat nav not working after trying to update

Featured Replies

Hi, tried updating my maps on my sat nav off a borrowed disc, that wouldn't work properly now left with no maps, just keeps saying insert disc!!

Anyone any idea how to sort this, as i have no idea when it comes to all this sort of stuff, couldn't afford the proper update off Skoda as ther quoted me over £200 for the update disc, do i just need an update disc, or whats this firmware uodate i keep reading about on hear, any constructive advice / information would br very much appreciated

are you sure the disc didn't work? the update takes about an hour and before that I have found the unit has shut down so I try and do it when I have a long journey.

the system should resume where left off though.

This site is littered with advice so use the search for more answers, particularly what version of maps you can update to. though you may now have to remove the unit to read the model numbers.

Yes i,m sure it didn't work, i tried over a week and it would start off OK then after 10 min it was just saying disc error

What firmware are you running, does it start 5 or 6?

5 is the earlier unit with mechanical hard drive, 6 is the later one with solid state hard drive.

If it is a 5, I have a recovery disc and firmware that works which gives radio info text for song playing etc like the DAB radios display. Also have latest mapping and VIM which is illegal.

I had this problem from a supplier on flea bay, left the first disc in for the day and same as you.

Put a disc in from a guy who knows what he is doing and wow, everything went very smoothly and loaded surprisingly quickly.

Any chance of finding out who this guy is that knows what he is doing?

Better still I could send you the discs if you cover postage and a drink if it works. I would want the discs back though and a gentleman’s agreement not to copy them.

The one I have is for the firmware starting with a 5xxx

Typo

There are plenty of update discs online with various firmware versions but experience is probably more helpful in this instance...

Might be worth asking @Rustynuts for advice.

Langers  is right, best speak to him, offer withdrawn as may mess your Columbus up more than it is.

Try Rusty Nuts I sent him my unit last week for an upgrade, plus the unit was having issues. now working fine with latest firmware and maps.

Look him up on Briskoda. Good value for money in my opinion

Hi pal my system went tits up like you say £200 from dealer I bought firmware and western Europe for £25 loaded on Friday and now works 100 .

The guy who is a wizard is Rustynuts offered to sort mine out but luckily the update worked PM me if you need info
