Auto tailgate failing to open consistently

Featured Replies

Our Octavia boot is failing to open fully regardless of whether the internal button or key fob button is pressed. I've had a look on obd eleven and can't find a fault. Also have manually opened the boot fully and depressed the boot button for ~5 sec to recalibrate but it doesn't help. The confusing thing is that the boot sometimes opens without issue and other times as you see in the following link: http://imgur.com/gallery/eN7OZ3q

Was in the Debenhams car park in Lichfield. Only after opening the ,manual , tailgate for the third time, I noticed the low roof. 25mm clearance.

Whew.

I can confidently say that's not the issue

What I wanted to imply was that an automated opening tailgate might whack into unexpectedly low roofs.😉

There has been a recent thread about replacing these electrically powered struts.

Mine has familiar problem. Any advice?

Hello. I have the same problem with the electric tailgate at the skoda octavia 3. Did anyone find a solution? I put the tester, but there is no error. Thank you

So I took it back to the dealer. They replaced the tail gate latch and problem solved

Hello,

The dealer replace tail gate lock (pos.21 - see pic.) or tail gate stricker plate with motor for power latch (pos.25 - see pic.)

Thank you.

Hi- i have the same issue as above. Has anyone else had this recently and can you confirm what parts were replaced to rectify? Mine is currently out of warranty so assessing if its a DIY or dealer / mechanic job

My tailgate on 2015 octavia scout had been playing up. It often only opens by about 30cm before stopping. It's the same if I use the remote, the dash button or the tailgate button. Works about half the time.
First I replaced the struts. No change.
Now I have replaced the latch. No change, but I can now see a related fact: when it opens correctly the powered "close it tight" latch moves immediately as the hatch starts to open.
When it fails, this "close it tight" latch opens after a delay or not at all.
see the videos for one good (https://youtu.be/8ARv9X4-zNk)  and bad scenario https://youtu.be/OcXeAglfhNk.
So I'm now thinking that it's either a computer, or sensor or relay problem. I can hear a relay in the left test panel, but have not yet pulled the panel off to investigate.
Any thoughts or similar experience and solution?

G’day all,

for info I had this exact issue with my 2016 Skoda Octavia RS wagon. Thanks to the advice on here I replaced the boot lid latch (new part number is 8R0827505a) and this has fixed the issue. The part number for the sedan/hatch is different (it starts with a 5). The fix itself is very easy, just use a door trim remover the remove the trim (lower section on tailgate interior). Remove the plastic cover over the latch and then disconnect the 4 pin plug to the latch, unbolt the latch (three nuts) and remove the latch. There’s a small plastic clip holding it in place which can be squeezed together with small pliers and then easily pulled out. Then just reverse the process to replace.

Hey. Hey.
I haven't added a post since the last mods, but I've tried part by part that which may be problematic. You're right, for me replacing that part eventually fixed it too.
