Wind Deflectors don't fit

Featured Replies

Can anyone advise on the best double sided tape to use for attaching rear wind deflectors.

They don't fit? What brand are they and where did you get them?

Team Heko brand. The front pair fit perfectly but the rear ones keep slipping out even with the clips. Thinking double sided tape?

That's odd. You definitely got the correct set for the hatchback(?) and not the estate version?

What model is your car? Where did you buy them?

I haven't installed rear deflectors yet (will be doing it next week hopefully) so don't have much advice, but the more info the better help you will get here.

Bought them from Ebay. The front two would take a bit of work to remove and a great fit but the rear ones would need something to hold them more firmly in place as the slip out of the seam.

@Bobbyj  Are you pushing the clips in correctly, smooth side facing out?

Smooth side facing wind and the other side into the rubber. Yep.

I have a set to fit later today so i have already done as Heko recommend and applied some Gummi Pflege to the rubber to condition it.

In the past that worked where i had bought cars with deflectors that were not staying put.

@Skoffski keep me posted on how you get on. For mine I'll defo need something to keep the rear deflectors rigid in place.

I have fitted many over the years from Heko and others.

Today only fronts getting fitted, as it is a 3 door.  (set coming for a 5 door though lol.)

That's interesting.

I just had a look on the Heko website (https://e-heko.com/en_GB/index?currency=EUR) to see if they mentioned this or anything else but they don't even have written instructions, and nothing on Gummi Pflege!

I will find you a youtube with Gummi Pflege, or conditioning the rubber.  Tesco Tyre & Bumper Conditioner is good, or just some Red Rubber Grease.

The excellent Micks Garage instructions.  Sorry if Heko does not give this advice.

Thanks. I just ordered the Gummi Pflege.

The guy's pronunciation of it is hilarious in the video though. This is German and should be pronounced 'Flay-geh'.

I'll give that a try. Cheers.

I do not speak German and never heard a German speaker pronounce it, so have no idea how to.

As with Gaelic, i see the words on sign posts and have no idea how to pronounce.

I wouldn't hold it against you, but now you know how to say 'pflege'! 🙌

Cheers but no sorry,

but then they have no idea how i might say Och aye the noo. It's a braw bricht moonlit nicht tha nicht.

Todays arrived with different clips, showing different way around and also yellow tape on the deflectors. (Not red tape, stick to outside / paint.)

I will be gone, 10 minutes, or maybe 20.... Could be longer if they snap.  Room temperature is bl00dy freezing.

Google translate also pronounces it 'Flay=geh'.

I just got some of these fitted the fronts and both look ok but neither window will shut it goes so high and bounces back open , I cant for the life of me see were they are catching they look ok , had to remove as was getting cold and tab on one of them snapped of very brittle , may work without it, but will be a miracle if the ever allow my windows to function , mine is a vrs 2018 mk3 face lift , shame they look really nice on a black vrs , I may have to go buy original Skoda ones

As you can see I have the same car and initially had the same problem. The solution is simple. Once deflectors are fitted and that problem occurs, here is what I did to solve it. When you usually press the window button, it's just a quick press and the window of course goes all the way up. But now it feels resistance as though a hand is trapped in the window, so it safely goes back down again to save injury.. Now the deflectors create that small resistance, so instead of a quick press of the window button, continue to hold the button up while the window makes it's way all the way up and at the same time have a hand on the glass firmly pushing upwards. Your hand pushing the glass up overcomes the resistance. After that, the window system gets to know this and overcomes the small resistance all by itself. This problem initially happened on 2 out of 4 of my windows.  My windows with deflectors have not now been a problem since. Hopefully this makes sense.

Its what the video said and showed how to do.

I never watched the video, but if it shows the same, even better.

It does and also says to leave them closed for 24 hours, the explanation given is that you help the window close firmly (preventing the volt drop that would reverse it) and the clip will deform the seal over the 24 hours that it is effectively clamped up & thereafter it should work correctly.

It's best to fit wind deflectors in warm weather, so that the acrylic material is softer and more pliable.
