Upgrade Rear ARB on a 2014 RS Combi

Featured Replies

Want to upgrade - what’s the one to get? H&R only list them as a pair (front & rear), yet I thought that’s counter intuitive doing both. Neuspeed seem to list a rear only for the MQB FWD.

Considered giving these a try? Had them on my own radar for a while but not had a chance to get round to checking them out fully yet.

Do you happen to know the size of your standard ARB's front/rear. My 245 seems to have poly bush locators for the factory ARB's.

Similarly to the H&R they only seem to be sold as a pair...

You could try the rear bar of a Golf 7R, I think it is a few mm bigger than the standard vrs one. Fairly cheap. Not as big as the aftermarket ones but an improvement. 22mm over 20mm if memory serves me right

Nope :) - Like I said, they're on my radar but I've not had a chance to research yet. I know the 245 track is wider but didn't know if that had any impact on ARBs or related gubbins, unfortunately.

Yeah, I realised that about 5 mins after I posted - apologies. TBF I'd want to upgrade both front and rear anyway, but as you said if you don't want to then makes it a little harder.

i would advise against only replacing front or rear as you could potentially end up with a mismatched/unbalanced setup that could cause dangerous handling issues - get a kit with fairly matched front/rear thickness

my top tips are to replace all you ARB droplinks at the same time as upgrading the antirollbars (and topmounts if replacing the shocks/springs)

an uprated ARB kit really really improves the cornering and is one of the best things I have done

edit - here is some more detail i posted a while back https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/455988-some-handling-upgrades/

Agree back in the 1990's my BMW E36 coupe got treated to 28mm front and 25mm rear Racing Dynamics hollow tube ARB's with poly bushes with Koni dampers and AC Schnitzer lowering springs and on track days I could hound M3's with 100bhp more than me along with my Brembo cross-drilled discs front/rear and goodridge brakelines and uprated brake fluid. After 50 laps round Croft circuit in one day the M3 boys wanted to know what mods my 325i had they were so impressed. I was about 8mph down on the main pit straight but brake later and carry more speed into all the corners.:blush

What drop links would you recommend using?

If only Skoda took that advice. They put a 24mm bar on the front and 18mm on the back, The back end wallowed and the car understeered like a pig.

Changing one bar is fine as long as you understand what problem you are trying to cure. Increase stiffness on the back, less understeer more oversteer. Increase on the front the opposite happens.

However putting a matched pair of strong bars on weak standard suspension can override the springs and also cause a handling problem.

As ever nothing is as simple as it first seems and you need know both what you are doing and why you are doing it (or get someone who does) before messing with major bits on the car.

Is it woth using aftermarket drop links? Is it possible to go OEM+ and use ones form elsewhere in the VAG group such as from the Clubsport S or is there a difference ?

Whiteline also do a kit but they seem to be smaller than the others, 24/22mm. I'd be interested to see what kit you go for. Seems like the front one is a bit of a PITA to do as the subframe has to come right out to change it.
