New Tyres + TPMS

Featured Replies

Hey

I had my front tyres changes 2 days ago

Same type , same measurements

The ones that came off were the correct PSI give or take 1 bar

Should I be concerned? I know the TPMS on the Superb are not attached to the rims but are a sensor mounted somewhere (ABS I think) so it's possible it's seeing a new tyre as having a different shape than previously

Fyi I've never had a warning that wasn't genuine (2 punchers in 3 years), that's what's concerning me just a wee bit after folking out £300 just days ago

Probably a knee jerk reaction

Oh obviously the reason for the post is the warning appeared on the way home lol

I've set them all again but will get to a garage tommoz and check them all

Re check the tyre pressures, if one tyre is low then investigate.

If the pressures are good then reset the TPMS system.

You need to do this after every tyre pressure check/adjustment,

and after any tyres are changed or moved on the car.

The tyre fitters might not have done this for you.

Thanks AG Falco

Yes, the TPMS uses the ABS sensor..

If a change in rotational speed is detected then the system deems that a loss of pressure must have occurred.

I think it may have just 'sensed' that there's been a change over the previously stored values and assumed something was amiss.

Exactly my thought process but I would assume that the alert would fired sooner than it did as I have driven in total a figure 3 hours round trip across 2 days which is 1.5hrs per day

So it has not fired an alert after a 200 mile round trip today

The pressure were checked on cold tyres this morning and they are fine

Cross fingers that's the end of it ......

I am guessing here but presumably if you had the front tyres changed it was because they were worn so presumably the new tyres are a bigger diameter which would change the rolling speed and alert the sensor?

The tpms should have been reset when the new tyres were fitted and the pressures confirmed correct.

Needs to b difference of at least 4psi before the TPMS throws a warning.

Some people just want to buy a car and use what they paid for.

As to needs to be 4psi difference, that is not correct.

Easy enough to go set your 4 tyres pressures, all the same, different front and rear, or all different, run the car. let the system read what the circumferences are, happy the TPMS is set.

Then let a tyre down 3 psi and see if you get a warning.

You can fit a spare wheel of a different size and different pressure, reset the TPMS and get no warning.

You can have a sticky brake caliper, have the tyre pressures set, the TPMS set, and have an overheating tyre and the pressure change more than the others or as that one was setr and the TPMS might warn.

Check it when hot you will know what the change was.  Wait until cold again and all pressures might look just fine.
