Headlight Washers

Featured Replies

Hi,

Something a bit different.

My Scout has HID headlights (factory fitted) and so has headlight washers. These operate, every so many screen washes. They pop out of the front bumper, spray, then pop back in.

Problem is the outer plastic cover has come off one (maybe it retracted a bit too far) luckily on the drive !

How can you get the washers operating arm to come out and stay out while I find if I need a new cover, or if it is fixable ? I have tried starting the washers, then turning off the ingnition, no go.

I would have thought there must be a way of keeping them out, for maintenance reasons if no other.

Cheers,

LLoyd

You just need to pull them out. You may need a pair of long nose pliers to encourage them out.

Their movement is from water pressure, so you just need to be firm...

Have some one activate the washers and grab it 😁

Hi,

Thanks for the two answers, long nose pliers I have so I will try to extend the washer arm and see why the cover has come off. Failing that, I will try the "grab it" method ! If they are operated by water pressure there will be some resistance with the seals etc. Car has just passed its MOT (washers part of MOT for HID headlights) and the washers work perfectly, just the cover fell off ! so if I break anything, I have a year to get it mended !

Do the headlight washers use a separate pump, or share the screen wash pump ? My previous car (Subaru Forester) had washers and wipers - don't seem to see wipers these days.

Cheers,

Lloyd

It is a separate high pressure pump for the lights washers. It takes its fluid from the windscreen washer bottle, which is larger than on models with just windscreen wash.

One of mine has gone missing too so following this thread with interest.

Anyone know the part number for a pre-facelift 2005 model? Are they right/left handed?

Hi,

Thanks for all your help and advice, these forums really work ! On close inspection, a tiny bit of plastic at the top of two of the "pegs" has broken off - due to old age or the washer arm retracting a bit too far ? Will try either a "dab" of superglue or perhaps a tiny cable tie to fix the cover back on. When it is retracted the cover is a good fit against the bumper, never moved when washing the car, so it is held with a reasonable amount of tension. It seems to be designed to be pulled off to get at the washer jets ?

Cheers,

Lloyd

You might need to take them off some time so don't put too much glue on them otherwise their on for good. 😁

Hi..

Wen u pull wiper for 4seconds headlight washer sprays off, so see if pins of jet are not broken then u can easily put out washer cover or else if cover or jet is broken then u hav to order new one.

easily available at aliexpress👍

According to this parts diagram (2005 Octavia 1Z) the covers are handed and part numbers are 1Z0955109 (left, item 16) and 1Z0955110 (right, item 17).

Shopping options in delivered cost order:

aliexpress £3.96 the pair from China in black; shipping anything from a week to six weeks

aliexpress £3.81 the pair from China in grey; shipping anything from a week to six weeks

ebay from £4 each from China or from lots more locally

skoda-parts left euro8.18 each plus carriage of euro10 per order

skoda-parts right euro8.18 each plus carriage of euro10 per order

Plus various breakers who _might_ have them in your colour but given their delicacy be prepared to pay for the privilege.

Also try your local friendly Skoda dealer and/or TPS.

And remember most will require repainting so factor in plastic primer (around £10 per rattle can), colour coat (ditto) and lacquer (ditto) plus a few coppers for wet & dry to rub down.

Have fun! :)

PS I order stuff from aliexpress and skoda-parts quite often and have had no problems with deliveries or quality.

PPS if anyone is interested we could do a "group buy" from aliexpress?  I'm planning to order a set as spares anyway.

added new info on black version as opposed to grey

Just pull the spray tube out by hand, it can be stopped from retracting with anything from a cocktail stick to self locking pliers, your choice.

I stuck my covers back on with silicone sealant RTV, jamming them whilst it cured.

Hi,

Firstly, many thanks to all who replied to this post, its great to have so much help & advice.

I have stuck the cover back on the n/s washer - since it was off it was easy to grab the washer arm and pull it out, I then dropped a piece of plastic (with a slot cut out) over the arm to keep it from retracting. Much supaglue applied to the three mounting pegs, let it go off and then removed plastic. Tried washers, perfect !

Then decided to glue the other cover, since one fell off how long before the other one ! As the cover was in place, got wife to operate screen washers (with headlights on) and before the arm retracted, popped the piece of plastic over the arm, rest as before. The washers have two jets per side, neither needed any adjustment. If they ever did or got blocked will use second method to hold arm out while adjusting.

Cheers,.

I have taken a closer look at the plastics where the cap is attached to and I am wondering if it is actually broken? Can anyone confirm?

I have just randomly lost a cover for my left hand headlight washer jet cover which I'm gutted about. Ive been frantically googling a replacement and haven't found one yet. I'm thinking I'll try a few scrap yards then just take it to skoda so they can charge me £100 for it  🙄. I've tried Ali express but I can only see the mk2. Am I right in thinking this won't fit?

yes washer cover can still be attached to this nozzle. As 2 attachments are ok.. Do one thing take a piece of plastic strip and get it attached in same shape.. It will nicely work now also on 2attachments just paste it with a fix

Many thanks! I got the Aliexpress part and painted it myself. Botched it but it is not bad enough to require a new part. All in all I´m happy with the solution despite my painting abilities being somewhat missing.

The 3 pins in the back of the cover just sort of slot in place and kept together with pressure

I'll post a pic shortly. Just at a restaurant. It's a superb mk3. 2016 plate. Not interested in this meal tbh as I'm bothered by the missing part. Retraced my steps through the narrow country lanes here but no joy.

Skoda superb mk3 washer jet nozzle as well as cover avail at aliexpress.. From which country you are?
