Park Pilot questions

Featured Replies

Hi and I apologise for the dumb question that I'm about to ask, but after 2 years oqning the car I still feel have not fully understand the proper use of the parking sensors on the car - and especially how to keep enabled the function to stop the car if an obstacle is detected. - the icon with the crossed A.

First of all, in the infotainment menu I have the auto-brake option enabled.

I know that when reversing, if I want this function to be active, the icon (the crossed circled A) las to be white. If I press and it turns yellow it means that the auto-brake function is disabled. - Am I correct? And I see that this function remains active whenever reversing and the icon is always white.

If I turn on the rear camera from the button on the console, the sensors are activated and the icon for the auto-brake is always white - so it's activated. But sometimes if I approach an obstacle in the front the sensors start to "sing" but not always the icon for the auto-brake is white (activated), sometimes it's yellow. Is this behaviour correct, or am I missing something?

Excuse my English, hope you can understand my question... Thanks

Please take a picture of the auto-brake icon and post it here - I'm intrigued... I don't see any similar icon at all when I use Park Pilot.

Yeah, I can't think of any icon coming up on the dash saying that. I know the car slows you down if you try and park 'enthusiastically'.

It may just be something on the auto boxes

The only 'A' or crossed out 'A' symbols I can think of concerns the engine stop/start system  i.e.  nothing to do with Park Pilot.

That's what I think too - which is why I asked OP to post a picture of the "auto-brake" icon

The icon is the one highlighted below. It shows up, together with the icon below it (that is to mute the sound of the beeps) whenever reversing or if moving slowly forward  and enabling the ParkPilot function.

My guess is that for the autobrake to be ON, the icon MUST BE white (it it is yellow, it means the the function is cancelled.

I must admit that I've never noticed these icons - however I've found out that there is some auto braking when my car has twice been automatically stopped when I was reversing into spaces against a wall.

During the first couple of weeks of ownership I miss-judged things a couple of times, on both occasions the car came to a very sudden stop. I got out of the car fearing the worst (who doesn't on a car that is only a week or so old to them) and on both occasions my car was stopped about 6" from the wall.

I've not had to switch anything on, activate anything - it just did it's stuff and saved my bumper twice.

Drive both a SEAT and a Skoda and that's a new one on me. From memory (I could be wrong) I have a large speaker icon in the top right of the screen if I wish to disable sound (which I often do as it sends the dog mad. He's not keen on the front sensor beeps, less keen on the rear sensor beeps and almost takes a fit when the overly sensitive side beeps go off. To be fair, so do I ).

This may be an additional thing on FL cars, perhaps?

It's certainly not there on my 2015 pre-FL model with Park Pilot.

It's called Manoeuvre Braking (or Manoeuvre Assist) and it was an addition on the facelift cars from 2017.

So yer, first time I've really looked at the icons whilst reversing - just been out and indeed, icons as described above. Both white.

I'll keep an eye on it and see if they ever come up yellow - obviously not going to be testing to see what happens when I reverse towards a wall with the icon showing yellow (if I can replicate). :)

@Stoofa: when reversing it's always white.

The manual says that the function can be activated in the infotainment menu, under Parking as I recall. And with the icons you can disable/enable the parking for a specific maneuver, afterwards it reverts to the default set in the infotainment.

I'be tried with my TV box put in the back of the car and it works :)

But as said, in some situations, when approaching some bumps in the front, the sensor parking are activating but the icon is yellow - maybe they are not considered as obstacles... anyway, thanks all for the ideas/info shared!

Now I don't have front sensors on my car - I don't suppose the camera can do any sensing, so I cannot test that bit.

If I reverse a bit quicker than usual, I notice the icon "greys out" - so that makes me assume that I'm going too fast for the system to activate.
