Worn wheel bearing

Hi Stuart just catching up here and I think you're seriously needing to find another garage ....the prices you're paying arid eye watering for an independent  ...you'd be almost as cheap, if not cheaper at a dealer

You're not wrong @labman1001! I'm still stunned by the audacity of their practices. They clearly plan for the long term because last year's test advised of a shock absorber that had started weeping which had progressed to a full-on failure of a leak this year. All makes sense doesn't it? Unless you test the theory by taking it elsewhere for a rigourous inspection. I've found https://www.whocanfixmycar.com/  and might give that a try for the next piece of work.

Yes and no ..... I knew my front shocker was misting September last year, it was picked up by my garage (independent specialist) when they did work on the car In Feb and they advised and quoted a replacement cost should I want it doing.  Driving back from Glasgow last week I could feel the absorption had gone and handling characteristics of the car had changed so I got it booked in and had it changed today.

A weeping shocker (which is an advisory) will get worse which will be inevitably be a failure.

As for a wheel bearing I'd expect a noise (and a prominent one at that).  I've got a bearing on its way that shows (or should I say is audible) when driven but not evident on a ramp so I'm keeping an eye on it and will have to let it develop.  I have been quoted about £250 for genuine and I'm fairly cool with that based on my mates A3 being done at a garage who gave him a discounted rate and it came in at £180

Except, like in my case, where they get better on their own 😉
