My VCDS Hex-Net reads everything my VAS 6150 D does, only thing it can’t do is connect to FAZIT (VCDS that is).

The fault library will be all to hell with those Chinese units, I had a VAG K CAN, the fault codes it read was nothing like what VCDS or ODIS read.

At least it erased your code.

Yes, it did erase my code, but here's the problem, would I have have had the courage to erase the code if I had not been able to discover what the code actual represented? I doubt it. On this occasion I was lucky enough to find a person who had done the same thing I did and then had the error pop up on the instrument panel. Had the error code been in the manual I'd have been fine with it. However to erase an unknown code might have been a bad thing without the knowledge of that video I found. TBH that was the only reason I purchased it was to reset that error signal, I doubt that I'll need to use it again and hence I was looking for a low cost route to clearing the code.

Now I accept that there is no way that such a device can do all that a professional grade tool will be able to do, but bearing in mind that I have seen this VC210 scanner being sold for over £80 and its identical to the one I got, then I'd expect it to be able to access the more basic items on the engine codes and brake codes like pad conditions, oil pressure etc as well.

Spend £15.99 and get Carista as advised before and see how it works for you.

It will do a awful lot more than that china clone

Then you can sell the one on eBay you dont want😎

Well that's always an option, but before I think about that I've another device in transit to me to evaluate and its this one. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MCUUB25/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Neither of which are monitored by self diagnostics.

Things like Knock sensors, O2 sensors, temp sensors, Catalytic sensors, emission etc. or anything that affect the provision of a MOT pass etc.

That is another cheap china crap clone that you have bought that will also need the software installed on a laptop

Carista just plugs in to the diagnostic  port and connects to your phone and will give you everything you are looking for

You could of bought a cheap £6 elm327 dongle and ran and ran a multitude of different apps on your phone to get what you want (Dashcommander or torque)

But none are as good as carista for  the money😕

You could also look at OBDEleven which is dearer still but a lot more with it

Here is the website

Yes it is another cheap clone and that was a deliberate policy as I'm retired and money is fairly tight so I was looking to do this on a tight budget. As mentioned before, I'm not looking for all singing and dancing unit, but enough to provide a basic and quick check on the cars more functions like being to reset errors if I have to do something like disconnect an airbag override switch, or remove a seat for some reason so that I can clear the resultant error codes without having to get a dealer to do this for me and avoid their charges. But thanks for the information about OBDEleven, I'd never heard of that one before. I already have one of those cheaper ELM327 units that just does the very basics on the engine codes and can also map fuel efficiency etc as well and use Torque with it.

Agreed, but I did expect it to at least be able to talk to the system, but I never for a single moment expected that it would be able to do everything that the more expensive system would do, I was expecting the basic functions at least and leave the more advanced the more advanced things to the professional tools, but to actually fail even to tap into the basics functions!

You're missing the point here. Cheap Chinese knockoffs frequently don't work as advertised. The manufacturers of these devices don't really care if they work properly or not, they just want to sell to people looking for a bargain. They (often badly) reverse engineer more reputable products and manufacture clones of them that look similar and come in similar packaging so that someone looking at them online won't notice the difference between the clone at €20 and the genuine article at €80. The buyer thinks they've gotten a great deal until they try using it and get the results you're getting.

I think that you're being too harsh here on Chinese products, I buy quite a lot of Chinese electronic goods and they do mostly just work as they claim, the standard of workmanship is not always very high and admittedly they often do cheaper methods of doing something, but still generally manage to deliver the goods. I expect that that if were to try this tool on a Mk1 Superb that it more than likely would do what it claims on the packet. To that extent I really do think that I was just unlucky to get a new old stock product that might well explain why it was being sold by the seller at such a low price compared others that I seen advertised. The seller has now offered me a full refund without having to return the old one so now I can consider may the Carista dongle and Bluetooth it to my phone as I the ELM327  device I currently have is very good at providing realtime information  etc for me.

Update.

I have just order the Carista unit and it will be with me later today as I have a months free trail of the paid for options I can give it real good testing and see just how that differs. What apps do you chaps use with this tool please?

Update, Carista has just been delivered and it claimed to have found 27 error codes, some of them were the drivers door, passenger doors etc, all reset and now showing 0 errors. I have customised some of the items such as sunroof now tilts instead of sliding and refuel also shows amount of fuel. Quick question here, does the amount shown, show what is left in the tank or what has been used since the last time it was brimmed?

I'll give my thoughts more about the Carista in a few days time when I have tested it out a bit more.

Well my last post on this topic said that I'd give my views on the Carista in a few days..... well I think almost 2 years later its about time I did that .

What can I say, it appears to do its job very well, it has found a few codes and corrected them but all of them were to be fair, minor codes to do with customization of the door locks, window and DRL lights etc so from that aspect, I'd be happy to purchase one for that aspect only. I think it is a worthwhile tool to have in the glovebox and the only slight downside is the annual subscription, but frankly it is not cancelling it as it is only a few £ a year, and you never know how many times you need to use in a year.
