Thanks for uploading, its a great video really shows how good an Octavia can be in fairly deep snow! Impressive, I am convinced now that with some good winter tyres i have nothing to worry about in the midlands mild winters!

One question... I m having service at 90.000 km and no 4x4/haldex 5 service is planned - does the 4x4 have any aditional check-ups of the 4x4?

Its in use entire year due to my type of driving 😁

Also - esc question. Whats the difference between

ESC ON (ok this is simple)

ESC OFF

ESC SPORT

I ve tried both sport and off in the winter but none of them are totally off..

Sport allows more slip to allow faster cornering before the ESC interferes.

Off simply raises the thresholds for the ESC to intervene.

Manufacturers rarely make "Off" mean off to protect themselves from possible litigation, the only exception I know of in VAG vehicles is Audi RS models.

off is off in mine... ok, i had to code to get it, but it's definitely off at that point.

What makes you think it's on?

When you re going sideways, it corrects just a bit. If that's not what you were planning, then you are into a surprise :)Not that much of a deal though.

Just wasnt sure the difference between sport and off esc. Also not sure if there's point in the sport... Need to test it more i guess.

Thanks for the replies

Remember a slide isn't going to be stopped by ESC, it requires a level of rotation within the car. Same thing today in the Swift; pushing it through wet corners and it slides, ESP is not doing anything because it's only a slide and there's no rotation about an axis behind the seats.

Received info on 4x4 maintenance (service). The oil in the haldex5 is being replaced every 3 years.

To be fair with winter tyres you would have managed any of those conditions on 2WD even RWD.

You can't pretend that yours was anything like as secure or safe!

Security and safety on snow on ice comes from the ability to steer and brake.

And for that you are certainly better with a 2WD car on winters than an AWD car on summers.

That's not the comparison that was being made!

You asked about security and safety.

AWD gives you added traction to keep moving. For stopping and avoiding obstacles then no advantage.

So for Security and Safety on comparable vehicles a 2WD on winters wins every time over an AWD on summers.
