I have for some time now had an intermittent vibration or rattle. It occurs especially when going over slightly uneven surfaces and appears to come from the rear vent just at the back of the central console. Has anybody else had this and, if so, what was the solution?

I have seen it said in similar threads that the source of the rattle is often not where you think. 

 

I had a rattle for weeks that I was convinced was coming from above my head somewhere. After much frustrated whacking of the roof, I eventually found it was the passenger seatbelt buckle rattling against the side of the jumbo box when the seat was unoccupied. 

Bit more foam stuck to side and problem solved.

I remember seeing that in the Mk2 Octavia vRS options book; Climate control with Jumbo box.  I didn't know what it was but I wanted it soooo much.  Does that term still get used in the literature?

I have no idea but I came from a Mk2 Octavia so it probably dates from seeing it in relation to that, although my Octy didn't have one, just some cup holders in the centre console. 

 

Mainly, I just find the term jumbo box satisfying to say.
