Consumables life span

Featured Replies

Our car (SEL 190 TDi) has just had its second service, so I thought it might be useful to share how things are wearing. Serviced at 36500 miles (inspection + oil change + DSG oil change) and Skoda report that the tyres have 5mm of tread left all round (I try to rotate the tyres as per the manual to keep the wear even); front brake pads are now 30% worn; rear brake pads are now 20% worn.

So it's looking like a reasonably inexpensive car to run for us. Quite pleased.

Thats good to hear. SUVs has the reputation of costing more to maintain, especially tires, brakes and such due to weight. Glad the Kodiaq isn't as heavy as one would expect.

Except if you have 20" tyres, which wear off in 25 000 km / 15 000 miles.

At least Continentals did. Now driving on Pirelli Scorpions, let`s see how these can surprise me..

Tyre life is as much to do with driving style than anything else.

I agree well driving styles and kinds of commute

Yikes, I’m getting the IGNITE rims so 255/40R20. Not keen on replacing those tyres.

Overall you are  right.

But my friend, proffessional tyreman, predicted 20 000 km for my Continentals. Well, did 25 000. He hasn`t seen any 20" doing more than 30 000 km. Nothing to do with driving style.

So you have 22’’ on your Kodiaq?

Would love a picture :)

To say driving style doesn't influence tyre life is, well, wrong.

Yes, that`s what I said. But somehow 20 + inch tyres tend to wear off  after 15 000 miles. Even if you do grandpa style driving.

Rough surfaces and turning scrub the tyres more, if you live in a city and regularly park in tight spaces, going to scrub tyres lot more than cruising down a motorway.

Outright mileage or driving style is not only factor in tyre wear

I think you may be making erroneous assumptions about “grandpa style driving” 😀
