Advice about faulty horn

Featured Replies

HI I need some Advice about faulty horn please

I pressed it yesterday to let a friend know I was at a meeting point it beeped once and then stopped working, from what I can tell the horn fuse is number 17 under the bonnet would this be correct?

anyways the fuse seems ok.

when pressing the horn I can here the relay make a clicking sound does this mean its working or not? not sure which is the horn relay though?

can someone tell me where the horn is located?

any help of advice would be great please as I need to go for an mot soon

My diagrams say fuse #24 (5amp) in the "E" box

The Horn relay is on the onboard powersupply module if that is clicking that eliminates the horn push/slip-ring

The horn/s are mounted behind the wheel arch liner (passenger side I think ?)

Yes

MK2 1.9 PD horn is located at front right (coolant reservoir side) and can be accessed by removing the small grill section/foglight.  This also gives access to windscreen washer motor.

number 24 is a 10 amp fuse and is ok i tested it.

its a MK2 2.0 scout @MicMac would this be the same? is it 1 horn on these or 2?

There are two horn units (called fanfares by VAG) on the Octy, a high-tone and a low-tone.  They are mounted either side of the main front chassis members and can be accessed - if a little awkwardly - by removing the bumper air dam - see part 5 on here .  I've included below a piccy of the nearside unit on our 1.9tdi O2 but this was taken with the bumper completely removed.   BTW with two "fanfares" to choose from I'd have thought that at least one would be operating even if the other had failed - unless of course you've been running on one for a while and that's now died.

At first I thought the double horn sounded like continental spec but I must be missing one on my UK spec MK2.

Vehicles RS and Scout:

–Remove the front wheelhouse liner.

Other vehicles:

–Unclip the trim panel at the front left or right on the bumper.

–Remove fog light

What engine do you have as the fuse allocations do vary

That's a lot easier than the way I tackled it!

ok thanks guys @StickyMicky bought a used one for £8.94 high tone will try one out if that works they have a low tone as well may as well get it back to how it should be :)

will let ya know how I get on :)

Ok on the 2.0l it shows it as fuse #5  but the layout diagram is very poor quality so you can't make out where that fuse is

If you look at Skoda's user handbook site for Octavia 2 2007-05 onwards here and select the online manual link then Breakdown assistance -> Fuses and light bulbs -> Electric fuses -> Fuse assignment in engine compartment - version 2 it points to F17 15A as the horn fuse.

This linky should take you there direct, hopefully!

yea the linky works :) its the same as in my hand book F17 15A it's good really that I got used to playing about with fuses cuz its something i've not done before but know it on my car quite well now after reading up what each slot was for lol

Nige, is the 2.0 147kW maybe not the right engine? The "not valid for 2.0/147kW" table agrees with OP's info.

Before throwing parts at it check that 12v is present at the horns when the button pressed and that the earth has continuity, if thats OK then remove them and hot wire them on the bench, they can often be coached back into life with a beating!
