MY20 Blindspot and Lane Assist

Featured Replies

Hi all

ive read that there’s some changes coming on the MY20 re blind spot detector and Lane assist.

Can anyone explain to me what these are in 5 year old language?

ive seen a pdf which suggests the warning indicators for blind spot is no longer on the glass but on the inside of the wing mirror housing. Is that right? Anyone know why?

I hanks

Skoda is replacing Blind Spot Detection with Side Assist, which increases the range of the rear radars to 70m from 20m and moves the indicator light from the mirror glass to the housing. The range increase is to detect fast travelling cars better.

Not sure what you're going on about regarding Lane Assist?

“Going on about” ?  Bit harsh 😳

There are no changes to Lane Assist as far as I an aware.

Do you reckon the increase in detection range would be done in software, or would it be done using different sensors? Just wondering if this increase in range could be retrofitted, as the BSD is a bit intermittent in my Karoq - they seem to work better if an overtaking car comes by at a fairly high speed rather than creeping by. I had the same issue in my previous Kuga, almost like first generation BSD.

Didn’t know that phrase is rude in British culture, apologies.

Good question. I don’t think it’s software as the range increase is 3.5x more than what used to be there.

I think I read - different sensors - but that probably means also different software / calibration to suit.

The number of sensors haven't changed, but you'd imagine that increasing the range from 20m to 70m will be more than just software...
