Alarm!

Featured Replies

Hi all

I seem to have gained another fault now... And this one is upsetting the neighbours.  I am beginning to regret swapping from my VRS.....

My alarm has now gone off twice this week very late evening (close to midnight).  The alarm went off, then it stopped, then went off again. The first time I run down and checked around the car to ensure nothing had broken in. But no.  So I reset it double pressing the lock button to disable the sensors.  Nothing more for that night.

Check the car interior during daylight and couldn't find anything that could have triggered it... Spider maybe?

The night after nothing... no alarms going off.  Thought it must have been a one off. However....

Last night awaken again by the sound of my car and again nothing of note could has set it off...

So, is there a way to find out what triggered it?  I am now losing trust in it not to wake the neighbours (and us) night after night. I have never had issues with manufacturers installed alarms like this before.

Thanks

Have you tried turning 'interior monitoring' off? Could be a way to tell it it's something inside the car that's triggering it.

Does sound like you’ve got a pet spider/ insect lurking  around in your car at night.

I had this with my old Yeti, it was caused in my case by a spider (I called her Charlotte) that may have 'dropped in' when driving with the sun roof open, Following like you odd alarm soundings and disabling the interior sensors I noticed various small spider webs around the inside, Over time the webs became old and tatty so I no longer disabled the interior sensors and it never happened again. I guess Charlotte found a new residence or is still there in spirit but since passed on.

Possibly a cat jumping onto the car?

Oh I would feel terrible right now, apart from the last web that spelt "So long and thanks for all the flies" so I guess she was OK.*

Not good news......

Been to see the dealer.  They can confirm that it is being set off...... they can't confirm what is setting it off..... They say one trigger was a window.... but the others.... nothing. possible errors as no trigger reason was logged..  I didn't know the alarm would log this sort of information.

So they have confirmed there is a fault..... the alarm system needs to be replaced! 😮

2 days work and my dealer don't have the skills to do it so I need to take it to a different one.....

Its booked in for this week..... so will see what happens next...... I was hoping it was "charlotte", your pet, but appears not.

That has got to be the most bizarre statement I’ve ever read.

No dealer can, or indeed should make that statement. They don’t get to pick and choose what warranty faults they repair. They are (I assume) a franchised Skoda dealer and repair it.

Yes it was odd - they appear to have some new techs - so that don't currently have the skill set yet??

they are a franchised skoda dealer..... big one at that.

Maybe they don't have a qualified electrician?

I guess the dealer may have techs with arachnophobia. They could of course have looked up all this on the 'web' , Is that my coat?

Charlotte (or one of her offspring now the size of an old 50 pence coin) is still around,  scared the missus the other day crawling around the bathroom when she was ..  err.. powdering her nose, after shrill scream she said she nearly.. err.. involuntary went to the bathroom as she put it.

I hope all goes well with the rework. Let us know the progress.

Its part of the basic training even for a service tech.

Besides all that they have an online connection with technical support. They send them a diagnostic log and they will assist. If you don’t have a go at fixing faults how you ever going to learn?

Poor show

Im the first person to stick up for a dealer normally but I’d be onto customer services myself and ask what is the point in having a franchise dealer that refuses to repair vehicles on the grounds they don’t know how.

Quick update.

I called Customer Services (thanks @Macdemon) and they were very helpful... they indeed could get me a car...... but I had to take mine to the dealer and then wait...... they said it could be upto a day wait then I could collect a car...... in which time mine would have been nearly ready.....doh

So mine has been booked in since...... and it goes in tomorrow.....  however alarm has not gone of since (as far as I know) and so they may not find fault now.

Some Customer Services.

Skoda UK / Warranty Provider can have a car delivered to you.

They can Hire one if needs must and so many are already out to people with Kangaroo issues rather than incy wincy spiders.

Take car and wait and as much as a day and you can collect a car.  Having a Giraffe.   So many animals concerning Skoda & Customer Services.

Just an update..... went in this morning....left the dealer around 8:30, they called me back to say it was a battery issue and they have charged the battery and all is now OK.....  this was 10:10

in under two hours??  really??

There are battery chargers that do super boost charging but wonder if that's good practice for a car under warranty. Mine was flat after two weeks at Manchester Airport. RAC callout replaced the battery as the original (nine months old) was completely k'nacked.

Interestingly the RAC tech had a laptop computer which hooked up to the car and reset all the electronics, which took a while. Another reason why my sixty plus year old electro/mechanical knowledge is past it's sell by. I'm still not sold on all the fancy gadgetry, too clever by half.

Wife's 2004 Corsa automatic is still on it's original battery.

Coincidentally, the Karoq alarm has been going off today for no apparent reason. If it's not a spider spinning a web I'd guess it's another battery problem.

So today put my Draper multimeter on the battery terminals. 12.3 volts. Started engine and it went to 12.4 volts. Revved to 1500 rpm and it remained at 12.4.

In my experience a 12 volt battery needs 14 volts to charge it.

Fully charged should be showing almost 13 volts.

I'll connect it to my 'smart' mains charger tomorrow and report back.

Hope the clever computer system doesn't see it as an intruder and shut down in protest.
