Front caliper bolts.

Featured Replies

Hi,  does anyone know the torque settings for the retaining bolts & sliders on front callipers of Superb Mk2  2008/9.  As I will be replacing  discs & pads very soon, any help or suggestions if you have done this job would be appreciated.

Repairing front brake, brake caliper FNR-G
  Note
t  Observe the instructions for changing the pad → Chapter
t  Brake inspection → Chapter.
t  After replacing the brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times when the vehicle is stationary to ensure the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
t  Use the brake filling and bleeding device e. g. -VAS 5234- to drain the brake fluid from the brake fluid reservoir.
t  Use the brake pedal load, e.g. -V.A.G 1869/2 - before removing a brake caliper or separating a brake hose from the brake caliper.

Think 10 & 7 are mixed up.

Oh yes!  Or at least 30Nm works for me (and my hex bits).

Thanks STuH78  this is going to be very helpful!   I have noted the mix ups,  so 10 should be 190Nm and 7 should be 30Nm correct?    Again many thanks

Yes.

Any idea what the torque is for wheel bolts,  I've done them to 125Nm

120 Nm

Hi 3T51704x4,  many thanks I'll readjust.

I don't think you need to worry about +5 Nm. Most over the counter torque wrenches aren't calibrated that accurately anyhow.

I agree, don’t bother readjusting. Unless your wrench is calibrated, near enough is good enough.

At least they won’t come undone.

It will be closer than a tyre centre would get winding them on with a gun 😉.

Unless of course you do have a calibrated wrench.

I've got the same torque wrench. Makes torque and angle a doddle.

Thanks everyone,  very posh torque wrench!   What make and how much??

It’s Snap On and no need for something like that for hobby use.

You can get a good torque wrench for a fraction of the cost.

But when changing lots of 1.6 CAYC/D CR piezo injectors requiring accurate torque angle, they save so much time.

The injector retaining bolt is a one shot pony, they do let go if you don’t change it leaving a nice dent in the bonnet.

I got mine for doing L405 Range Rover sub frame bolts, that's a brown trousers moment.

Hi everyone  I replaced the discs and pads on my Superb but found that it took longer than I thought,  but I put part of that down my age (70) and also the hot weather.  Because of the length of my torque wrench, I found it easier to have the steering on full lock for each side to accommodate it and get the leverage required.  I used Comma copper grease where needed but found that its not like the stuff of my youth.    Again many thanks too all those who gave advise etc.

My solution to the awkward access was to use the trolley jack on the end of a standard length ratchet handle. A bit crude but effective for that application.

I'm looking for an adjustable torque wrench, can't justify Snap-On or Facom prices though, any recommendations?

These would be good value:

get the correct working range for your needs.

You will need the 1/2 inch drive one for wheel bolts and calliper bolts as 3/8 won’t go high enough.

Hi silver 1011.  I would be inclined to take a look on Amazon or Ebay, the other place to look is Machine Mart.  Depends on what you want to pay and how often you will use it.  I bought mine from LIDL years ago,  quite happy with it.

The one that 3T51704x4 has shown is similar to mine so should do most jobs with ease.

Halfords do some good deals sometimes. Their torque wrenches are re labelled Sykes Pickavant Mortorq ones which are very good quality.
