amber fault light on dash ?

Featured Replies

hey guys

please can you help ,i bought a mk2 fabia 62 plate (jan 2013) which has got 33000 miles on the clock ,it has been stood for 3 and a half years on my neighbours driveway . i have serviced it with all filters oil etc . last week i did a 250 mile trip without any issues but today i came down the slip road off the motorway and came to a stop at the lights ,i looked down to see the amber glow plug light flashing. the car was still running perfect and everything was working ok ,about 3 miles down the road i turned the engine off removed the key and then re started it and the fault seems to have reset ???.

any ideas please ..

thanks

ps its a 1.6 tdi 105 se

thanks

...Might need a DPF regen if it has no regen light (Looks like an exhaust) but otherwise, I think the light can come on for a few different issues. I think it could even be illuminated by a brake light fault. Check they are working as this is a very simple start. I could be wrong with that as working from memory but check all bulbs anyway. Its a simple thing to do.

Usually, if it went out, as long as it stays that way it should be ok. Just be vigilant in keeping an eye on it.

BTW, Always be sure to check the light goes out, prior to starting the engine. It only takes a second or two in normal conditions, a little longer in very cold weather but  by the time you click on the ignition, then pop a seatbelt on, it will be ready to fire up!

wow that was quick cheers for reply...

Fault code scan first up but I’d expect there to be an EGR fault stored.

Or maybe exhaust temp sensor 3

would the egr go bad with being stood like it was ?

Might well have seized up

i bet they're a pig to get to as well eh . its been running great and still is ,would it do that if the egr was stuck/broken ?

Yeah. But this is all guesswork. Need to read the fault codes.

does a blown rear brake light still trigger the glow plug light on the Fabia II's - I'm sure it used to on the Fabia I's

all brake lights working ive just checked ,could have been a dirty conection on one of the bulbs i guess and thats why its cleared itsself ??? might try to clean all connections on rear clusters and monitor .. thanks for ur input guys ....

2 blown brake light bulbs used too, but don’t think that works the same way as the lighting is controlled by the BCM.

ok i just borrowed my mates plug in diagnostic code reader and plugged it in next to the fuses under dash on drivers side . its showing no faults ?

Three possibilities:

1. If it’s a generic OBD reader it may not contain the relevant fault in its database or it’s unable to read it.

2. The fault is intermittent and the ECU no longer has a record of the event, or the fault didn’t last long enough to record it

3. The fault isn’t in the engine ECU so an OBD reader is unlikely to find it. Interrogate all control module to verify this.

quick update guys

my other mate who has a diagnostic software on his laptop which is only for vw,audi, skoda has scanned it and its come up with an unknown fault (7329 ROD)  . It has now happened twice both times decellerating and braking off the motorway ,as soon as i turn key off and remove it ,it resets back to normal.. he has cleared the system now with his scan software just wondered if you have heard of this fault code before ?.

thanks again 👍

@DAVEEVO - Can you confirm the name of the software your mate has please?

Isn’t a type of number I recognise.

i'll ask him and let you guys know .. im thinking it could also be a brakelight switch maybe ? looked on fleabay and they seem to have 4 pins ??

That's fairly easy to check; engine on and press the brakes. The light switch failure will mean no brake lights.

If you do need to replace the switch, buy a genuine VAG part.

yes they do work i just wondered if there might be an intermitent fault on it, why are there 4 connections on it ??

the software is ECDS (chinese version)he told me ..

Two for the lights, two for the engine ecu

thanks 👍

Pretty sure the brake light switch on that age of car is on the master cylinder anyway.

ok thanks again , is it unheard of that they might be intermitent ?
