Axle stand points

Featured Replies

Hi People, I will be removing the front wheel and can see that it is recommended that the jacking point is under the sill.  All fine so far but I then want to insert an axle stand and remove the jack.  Where for to place the axle stand as the jacking point is already in use?  Your help will be appreciated, Cheers.

I just jack from a bit of the exposed frame then position the stand in the normal jack point.

I had looked at the owners handbook online but it did not give any info on the stand positioning.  I think I will have a good look underneath and see if there is a suitable cross member.  If it comes to the worst, I'll see if I can get both Jack and stand very close together.

Thanks for your input.

I don't think that you will have/find enough room to jack and fit stands on any dedicated strong points, they are only about 4 inches long.

One option is to locate where you can retro fit 4 Audi TT MK1 jacking point protectors, and use a block of wood and a trolley jack to lift the car and fit axle stands suitable for use with these folded welded jacking strong points to prevent causing any damage.  You could even spend roughly £25 and permanently fit a set of 4 Audi TT MK1 jacking point protectors and always lift the car using a trolley jack with a smallish lifting head/cup located under these 4 lifting points and then fit suitable axle stands under the 4 dedicated strong points at the sills.

For other reasons, I've gone down the road of buying a set of 4 Jackpoint jack stands - you use them with a suitable trolley jack lifting initially under each dedicated sill area jacking/lifting point, with the top of the jack stand on top of the trolley jack, then when you have reached the correct lifting height, you place the base of the jack stand under the top and lower down onto the base, then remove the trolley jack, buying that kit cost a but of money, but I needed something like that for my car as its underbody has a large plastic cover, so no other sensible options for locating a trolley jack prior to locating axle stands. Why there is not any other products on the DIYer market cheaper and made in UK I can't say!
