What bike did they use?

Kev smith on a 999bip, not even an R and it beat the lambo, not by a lot, but a win is a win.

Shifty's headlight washers would totally soak any poor biker following him

Yeah, but if it was me, I would pull you over and kick the **** out of you, thought you pro car guys where trying to be nice etc etc.

Whoa fluffy, I think it was merely an observation, not a suggestion. :D

I'm a social hand grenade, always have been always will be, tell it like it is ........ sorry. :)

Well, I am a car fan. However the stats for the new Yamaha R6 speak for themselves:

130BHP @ 18,000RPM

160 kg

0-60 sub 3 secs

160+MPH

Sounds fun to me, all for a paltry 7,500 GBP brand spanking new...!!!

I'll have two please... :)

I have ridden bikes since i was 16! as someone else mentioned earlier, there is nothing this side of

Actually m8, they are in trouble for telling porkies, on the dyno they have only been rev'ing to a paltry 16,000 RPM.

Lot of power from a little package though.

I would love a bike but being 1/2 an idiot I fear I would last 5 minutes.

As I type, one of the lads at work is in hospital, being mended, having crashed his Kwacker.

Many moons ago I lost my deposit on a suzuki ts 185 , because they day before I was due to pick it up, one of my schoolmates was killed on his fizzer, nuff said afaiac.

Hi

Simple really.

Cars give you a level of comfort, stability and accident survivability that a bike cannot touch. You get to stay warm and dry, and some of them go quickly enough and handle well enough to be entertaining.

Bikes give you a different practicality in terms of traffic jam avoidance. The main thing is the buzz though. Few things get me tingling like a long fast sweeper with knee skimming tarmac and throttle stressing the rear tyre and trying to keep the front down all at the same time.

Fastest? Well its all b*ll*cks. Some bits of road or track or conditions will suit a car better, some a bike. Mate wants to try his R1 against the Fabia. My reply, OK if its wet and we have bends. Performance or exitement per pound wise, there is no comparison.

So if its entertainment you want, bikes every time. Lost my Brother and a lot of friends on them though. Like all the best buzzes, dangerous.

OK we do all speed a little - but I now actively try not to.

If you want to go faster there is the German Autobahn or better still trackdays.

Same goes for Cars and bikes

What I want a bike for is the freedom to get away (as mad as it sounds) with my camera gear. Yes I could do this in a car but the idea of a bike and being on my own is apealing.

And yes I do expect I'll come off and yes I could injure or kill myself. But yes I could do that just as easily walking across the road in front of a car or driving dangerously. And yes I have the protective gear which I intend to use.

Maybe I should swap the VRS for another 12v and give up on the bike. But the motto live each day as it comes is so true. 3 Friends got cancer last year. so far they're all coping - but it just shows you cannot take anything for granted.

A few things need to be settled here. If we're talking about 'what pound for pound machine gives a faster drive' then the motorcycle will obviously win.

Now, the REAL qestion is, which is the best. Well ...

Car = fastest top speed (land speed record) by miles.

Car = fastest accelerating = Drag racing (yes it is a car) again by a long way.

Car = fastest braking from ANY speed to zero. by miles.

Car = best handling on a racing circuit. (lap records are always F1)

Scooting in & out of the traffic in rush hour is not a measure i'm afraid. Niether is the '

a car has 4 times the grip contact patch of a bike

Either you've got a unicycle or an eight wheeled car:rofl:

vRSLen' date=' I'd like to think no-one is referring to us as 'morons'

I think they are trying to wrestle with their non-understanding of what attracts us to enjoying riding bikes.[/quote']

Very astute, I think you have probably hit the nail on the head with that one, for me anyhow. :)

What really does make me sit up and take note of is how many of you have had friends or relatives that have been killed or injured on bikes...............frightening!. :thumbdwn:

Don't disagree - but the issue is training.

Up to the early 1980's ANYONE aged 16 could jump on a 250 with L Plates. No need to take a test. Result carnage. The full motorcycle test at that time wasn't any better then. Ride round the block - don't fall off and you've passed. Then (at 16) get on a 1000 cc machine capable of Porsche + speeds. No wonder people got killed.

It was only in the early 90's when the CBT came in did things improved. But from what I've seen the CBT is a sausage machine. Even the safety talk was nonsense - Instructor bragging about coming off a bike at 100mph, 16 year old kids being let loose on machines with tracksuit bottoms and trainers. Even talk that denim is better than leather and no mention of body armour.

Then there's the issue of anticipation. Car drivers are as lethal as bike riders, if not more so. Bikers need to anticipate more - those who don't become statistics. Also the speeds some machines do is frankly rediculous. Doesn't help the Jap importers have stopped importing the 400cc machines - most of these had more than enough power (some will disagree though).

OK not everyone gets bikes. No harm in that - until recently I was much the same. Also between a bike and a car for sole transport, the car wins. But as they say each to their own.

We can sort this out in the time honoured way - we'll have a race - I'll bring my 1992 Honda CBR600 (but I'm sure someone here owns a far faster bike) - and one of the car fans can bring any car that they actually own - not some thing that they would like to own but can't afford.

We can race from a standing start, around a track, from one place to another, from 0 to 100 and back to 0 - in fact in any way that you want. Make it sort of scientific. pmc

A bike prob has a 180/190 section rear and a 130/140 front aye??? Since the tyre is curved asnd on a bike you cannot brake leant over and cornering you only use one side of your tire at a time!

Where as car has say 4 x 195 contact patches through corners and to brake with, don't think it is that stoopid do you!!!

This thread is very good. Nice to see a debate that hasnt' got totally out of hand (yet).

And quite frankly in reall world terms there ain't a lot in it!

So you may as well take the dry, comfy option and drive a car ? ;)

naahhhh that would be boring :)

LOL!

How about a day trip? Manchester to the 'Ring, 10 laps, and back to Manchester? Covers 1/2 of the events you list. I will of course take my SDI, to give you a chance.

I reckon that of the 4 events you list it'd be 2 each - ergo my car is as good as your bike :D

;)

Oh and all bikers are leather wearing sausage jockeys. :finger:

HTH
