Anti Hijack set-up on car over 15Km/hr

Featured Replies

Not a problem when the car is switched off but when its still running is it just me or do passangers try and seperate the bloody handle from the door due to this feature being active, instead of trying it a second time.

I've seen one of these type handles snap in two on an Ibiza, and I'm half thinking about getting it removed for this reason.

Always catches my wife out as well... and it's only been active for the past 3 years

I usualy unlock it now for her with the buttons in the door.

I know just what you mean! I try to unlock it myself first if I have a passenger that's unfamiliar with the car but I do forget and as you say they just tend to pull the handle as hard as they can rather than releasing it and trying a 2nd time. :(

However having had my door opened at a set of traffic lights I would never consider turning the function off.

Is this a funtion thats on octavis too?? If so which ones and if its vRS's how do you activate/deactivate it please

It's available on all VAG cars with central locking, IIRC. You need to find someone with VAG-COM to activate it or ask your local dealer. It's a 5 min job tops :D

Got mine done at the first Cat and Fiddle meet by another member on here - BryanD. Cost me a pint!

My gf had it turned off on her astra, the guy who fitted it said he didnt blame her, he got caught out once too (whilst fitting one - how embarassing!).

Tempted to turn it on on mine though - one of the door catches is still dodgy so the door-open light flicks on whilst driving causing me to look down at the dash and not at the street candy, erm, road. I lock the doors now and that cures it, and Im used to it cos I drive abroad a lot, and tent to lock the doors as a matter of course.

Only thing im concious of is stepping out of the car and locking the key in the ignition. Happened to anyone?

I have that activated on mine.... just tell the passenger to pull the handle twice!

The cat & fiddle is fairly close to me. Anybody know when the next meet is and what BryanD drinks??? :-)

what does the anti hijack function do? am a bit confused (not for the first time) why does it work inside the car? surly you want to stop people opening from the outside and dragging you out!!

That would only happen if you got out of the car then it accelerated to over 15kmph without you inside.

It basically locks all the doors via the central locking once you go over about 10mph, saves you having to remember top lock the doors.

so what happends when the car stops? say at a junction or traffic lights?

k

The doors stay locked until someone inside pulls a door handle twice or presses the unlock button.

In an accident the doors are unlocked.

ahhh i see now!!! its the same as a black cab then? why isnt it activated as standard?

Mine also unlocks when I take the key out of the ignition.

Next C&F meet is 29th April. See this thread.

Well let BryanD tell you what beer he likes!

I always though that the cat & fiddle was a lot closer to me than it actually is. I'm in Shropshire and always thought it was closer to me in Cheshire than it is. It may be a nice drive out though and or I might try and twist the dealers arm this afternoon when I pick her up. It may be active already

Not if you drive over 15kmph then stop and get out, doesnt it relock the front door?

No. It only relocks when you next exceed 15kmph.

Ah ok, fair enough, better than other mfrs systems then. :)

I had this activated on my Furby :)

Problem is SWMBO HATES it, as I am main driver of he car & SWMBO is only a passenger 2x a month , i will leave it active.

However i have got into a routine where if there are passengers and I stop, I just press the central locking button to unlock the doors JUST before switching ignition off. BUT if i am on my own, when you take the key out of the ignition, only the drivers door unlocks, which is fine for me.

I quite like the Ford one as it locks all the doors but doesn't require a "double tug" to open them again. Less confusing for passengers unless they try and open the back door before I've turned the engine off

Chris

A mate of mine who has an LCR and VAG.COM introduced me to this and the other tricks you can do. I think it would annoy me personally. I always have the option on my Golf of hitting the button if I want to or dont feel 100% when I am stationery somewhere.

just got an 06 furby vRS....was already set up with autolocking...and they remain locked until you use the door handle or unlocking switch
