Remappped Finally

Featured Replies

Just got Mk3 190 4X4 remapped yesterday and very happy with it. Came in at 179bhp stock and then finished out at 215bhp. Could've done more but I was happy with it and to keep something up the sleeve not to be running too close to the limits. Also had the gearbox remapped with everything bumped up 250RPM for gear changes and load factors and a really big difference. No awkward downshifts going around corners anymore or always dropping gear as soon as you touch the pedal, it's quite happy to hold a gear now and power out with the added torque.

Got the squidgy accelerator pedal profile adjusted as well and it's a lot sharper now. All in all, a good result I think even though I was after modest gains.

179 stock seems a little low.

It's a diesel what did you expect the claimed 187 prancing horses under the bonnet.🐌

Lots low as 190ps should be the Minimum under ideal conditions, temp / blowing at car on a dyno, fuel, height above sea level.

If that was all it had what would it have high on a Continental European Mountain Pass in High Summer Temps.

Good result though after if accurate.

In 2014 my 150PS diesel produced 147bhp which was quite close to claimed output before remap and 246lb/ft of torque (Skoda claim 236lb/ft). After 186bhp and 317lb/ft.:)

My 150ps TDI SCR DSG pulled Like a King (took things like a King) & towed well and better than the 190ps version i tried that was like pulling skin off a rice pudding..

Many believe the 150PS version is quieter and nicer to drive than the 190PS version. I haven't driven a Skoda with that engine just the 184PS diesel in my 2015 Octavia which seemed noisier.

Ya I was a little surprised too but the remapper wasn't. Just said that's the way they are a lot of time. He did say I'd a weird engine and software version because it was kind of halfway between the new and older versions. Same for the gearbox as well he was saying.

He could've brought it up to 225 pretty easily he said but I was happy with it at the 215 and the gearbox adjusted. Accelerating is way smoother now and gear changes appear faster.

Also, I queried the TD1 flag in the car and he told me that he can reset this. i can't remember exactly but it was by a software update and removing some data or something. He does a bit of work for Skoda main dealer and he's tested it a number of times and no problem. I thought that was interesting.

he also said the 4X4 was a real pain to dyno as the Haldex was kicking in and out depending on the load etc. I asked about upping the clamping pressure on it but he said it wasn't necessary.

Theres rarely the claimed  40 ps between the 2 engines. Alot of 150ps are running around 158ps and alot of 190 engines  are actual about 175 ps or so.

Less than half the claimed figures.

They shouldn't be getting away with it,  but it's been going on for years  😭

Always take figures with a pinch of salt, not all RR's read the same. Its the before and after that are important (providing the mapper does not have a mysterious button to ggive a high reading as required - it does happen).

My old race car on the RR I used for years read about 125 bhp at the wheels, engine was built to a 175 bhp spec so seemed a bit low but it kept winning pots so no complaints.

On a RR shoot out it made 152 bhp at the wheels which was closer to what I would have expected but it was just a figure and would not make the car faster. The RR owners own car with a lower spec engine than mine (never won a thing) was supposed to have made 175 bhp on the night and some owners were flooding to him to spend their money.

When my RR chap retired I found another local old boy who knew his stuff but had an ancient water braked RR. On that the car made 172 bhp at the wheels.

Too many variables.

I'm one of them.  I much prefer the 150PS.  A remapped 181/184/190 is nice though (just 'meh' as standard IME)

Going to look at 3 possible replacements for SWMBO Karoq and they have the 150/190TDi engines plus the 220PS petrol engine. Brain is saying buy one of the diesels 55mpg average but heart is saying the petrol (more fun). Wonder which emotion will come out on top. Cost of diesel plus Adblue major turn off plus the start up clatter.

If it's a 4X4 automatic you're looking at then you can forget about 55mpg in my experience. I'm not even getting 40mpg in mixed driving. Wouldn't let adblue put you off though, I bought a drum for like €16 which will do about 18,000 miles. I filled the tank and it said 9000km to refill so wouldn't worry about that part of it.

If it was me again, I'd go for the petrol in the 4X4 and tune the living daylights out of it.

Agreed. Seems like too much torque limiting in the gearbox.

The 220 ps. No contest. Smoother, quieter and has more than enough for UK road traffic and conditions. I averaged 36 mpg over 14000 miles in mine and that included 'fun' drives but admittedly much of it was progressive style rather than fun. Best was a 500 mile round trip up to Norfolk which returned 45mpg.

Do the maths on that and you would be crazy to go diesel.

Unless doing silly miles or you are strictly governed by running costs/fuel budget then IMO the 220 TSI is the sweetspot in the whole engine range in terms of performance /fun factor vs economy.  The TSI's are also much more refined.  With my Superb 150 TDI I noticed that the engine became significantly more vocal and clattery at ~10K miles but it was still the most refined VW TDI unit I've had.

If running costs are a big factor then I think the 150 TDI is a the way to go.

Yeah combined on the DSG 220 is 44mpg and I normally get quite close to Skoda's figures. My 245 which the wife will inherit does 40mpg all the time when Skoda claim 42.8mpg (manual). Fuel only £1.22 litre unless I put V-Power in it (oh and map it).

I think Esseesse200s 190 4x4 was approx 182 before his remap so pretty close.

Re mpg my 190 2wd manual has averaged 51.55mpg over 28,000km, pretty happy with that.

Just waiting for Conor to bring me for a spin to see if I need a power bump😁

Yep mine was 175 I think then with a forced regen went up to 180 then mapped to 211 with 465/470nm I think. I do however have something in the planning stage I’ll let you know when it happens.

Mpg yep over 2k miles it’s averaged 38mog and I do A LOT of motorway work however I have been taking it a bit steadier and conscious recently and I’m getting 40’s just mixed and on a run to Stratford upon Avon from Sunderland the other day I managed 43 with me the good lady and 2 kids

Of course you need it Mark. Just like you needed the H&R’s... sorry am I a bad influence. Don’t get the map until I’ve done my little plan tho because I think we’ll be looking into the 220’s and over 500nm reliably and trouble free. Or depends on the budget maybe 250bhp with about the same 500/520nm

I’ve not heard that before!

I wonder if @Tech1e can throw any light on the matter?

Let's pencil it in! Wanted to get the remap sorted to make it a worthwhile spin. You always need a power bump Mark, that feeling of untapped potential will eat away at you slowly until you crack. You may as well get it done now and enjoy the benefits.. that was my rationale anyway 😀
