Sunroof + Accoustic windows

Featured Replies

Hello I,

I'm hesitating to spec my Kodiaq as such:

Panoramic sunroof (not an inconditionnal fan, but I think the kids will love it, so it's now or never) + Accoustic/Sunset windows + Extra added Privacy Glass (darkened to 95%)

My problem is I will have double usage of the sunset and extra privacy glass, so I'm paying double to have darkened glasses. But the sunshade from sunset glasses is not enough so I want to pay the extra cost.

So the only reason I take sunset is because of accoustic glasses.

I think you notice the difference between a Kodiaq without and one with accoustic/sunset glasses while driving, or am I wrong?

My last problem is with the sunroof, I will probably have added outside noise due to the sunroof, so is it still worth it to pay the extra cost for accoustic/sunset only for the accoustic part? (Remember I will add separately extra privacy glass so I'm only really taking it for the accoustic isolation effect).

So I wanted to receive some feedback from people who have owned one of those specs or them together (sunroof & sunset/accoustic glasses).

Is it worth it to take sunroof and accoustic glasses or is the effect of the accoustic isolation lost anyway with the panoramic sunroof?

Because otherwise I can save that money and choose Columbus system over Amundsen. (Extra question is it worth it, knowing I will probably only use google maps or waze on my mobile phone?

cheers!

And just to be clear I'm speaking about noticeable noise with sunroof fully closed.

I know that when the sunroof is opened, there will be more noise! ;)

Very few people have the acoustic glass option. Id only be able to report in November when I get my car...

We have the pano roof but not acoustic glass. I don’t notice noise from the sunroof, but there is noise from the wing mirrors above 70mph which the acoustic glass might help with.

It wasn’t an option when we ordered, but I would probably pick acoustic glass if we were ordering again.

The Columbus does have traffic info on a par with Google etc - but the RTTI (v TMC) is only free for the first year.

On a plus point, it does integrate properly with the maxidot.

I think I will pass on the Columbus, most info I got has convinced me not to take it anyway, I just would be paying extra for a bigger screen.

Google maps on my phone is free for all the duration of me driving the car.

By the way, does anyone know if the Amundsen changes colour when you change ambient lightning?

I know Columbus is switching colors to match the mood of your ambient lightning, as well as the virtual cockpit.

But I couldn't find a video or a thread regarding to the Amundsen/Bolero and his behaviour towards ambient lightning.

I have pano roof + acoustic windows.

Also I had full noise cancllation done (every panel and bottom sealed).

Actually the car was quite silent before noise treatment. So I guess the windows do their job quite well.

Acoustic windows aren't available in the UK.

I stand corrected...

One thing about the panoramic roof, i went as a passenger in a mates kodiaq and I could feel the sun on my head, even with the shade closed the sun rays still got through. I found it very uncomfortable, but that's due to me being abnormal and hating the heat 🙄 it wouldn't bother most people but something to consider.

I agree with Blakey092, sun shade is very poor quaility on my L&K Kodiaq. Had one previously on 2009 Honda Jazz and it was way better than this one. Very thin, almost see through. I had panoramic roof glass tinted with Llumar film to make it bearable.

Interesting, as I like the fact that the sunshade is a shade rather than a cover.  And I hate the heat as well.

Interesting point, I drove (for a tesdrive) a Kodiaq with sunroof and it looked nice open, but I also drove with the roof closed to test noise, rattling and sun effect.

It wasn't noisy at all, but the shade screen seemed a bit light yes. I didn't pay attention to it as it didn't bother me, but I wonder if it would become a problem when the sun is shining really hard.

BTW amundsen changes colours with ambient lightning. The car I drove today had the Amundsen screen.

Surely the pano roof is already tinted?

It will have Ultra Violet reflective glass like most sunroofs to protect occupants from the sun's harmful rays if not the heat.

Curious because that’s not our experience at all. With the roof open, you can feel the sun hot on your head. I would guess that it’s decent glass that does a good job of blocking IR as well as UV. Even on the sunniest days we’ve not noticed any heat coming from it - just light. The only time we close the blind is when the roofbox is fitted, because the underside of it isn’t the prettiest of views.
