Dont get me wrong I really do love my fabia, it does what I want it to. But I just feel it's starting to attract the wrong sort of attention. Maybe I'm just worrying over nothing.

They seem to be very popular with the younger drivers (not all younger drivers are the same) and following on from the "Greenlight" thread in the fabia section they seem to be getting into alot of scrapes.

I also spend a fair bit of time at scrapyards and salvage places and I'm starting to see a few come through with mostly frontal/rolled damaged.

I'm worried that they may start to become un-insurable and like the old saxo vts used to be. I know there has been threads about this before and mostly it's be laughed off and dis-missed but is anyone else starting to think the same?

So my question is do I stick with it or do I change it for something else? Or am I just worrying over nothing?

Well, without the use of a crystal ball it's hard to tell whether the Fabia vRS will definitely follow the Saxo VTS...but would agree that a lot of the similar signs are there.

I guess the two main questions are:

1. If it does turn out to become an uninsurable car, it's unlikely to be sold easily/for a good price - do you like the car enough to take that risk if you hang on to it?

2. What would you contemplate replacing it with?

Rob.

If you want a car that's going to be (and stay) cheap to insure you need to get a car that doesn't look sporty and that you can then mod to make it sporty without changing the appearance too much. :D

Choice will depend on size, requirements and budget :D

Chris

i dont think it will become what the saxo vts became. it could just be your area but the scrapyards ive visited, there hasnt been any fabia vrs in. alot of octavia's but geenrally there used taxi's. as much as i dont like saying this but the stigma of a skoda is still around. especially amongst young kids. honestly dont thik there is anything to worry about. i very much doubt that the general public see a fabia vrs as a charv car.

-ho

I voted get rid.

Get something boring and sensible - then mod it. Something like my SDI would be ideal :D

It would have to be a swap for something of the same price.

I just feel if it does go the way of the saxo that I will have trouble insuring it and it will lose alot of money.

It's 2 years old in May and currently it's got 38k on the clock, my original plan was to keep it for 5 years or more.

They are also become as common as muck, or atleast they are the further up north you go, I liked it when I only saw one once in a blue moon lol

That's interesting as none of the teenagers I've spoken to seem to know about anything pre-VAG Skoda so don't understand any of the traditional Skoda jokes, etc....

Chris

Been thinking this myself...........................but, there is very little out there that will replace the Fabia vRS as far as low running costs & "smiles per mile" are concerned! :D

A very naughty thought came into my head only yesterday................BMW 330d.............but it quickly went away!

Running costs will be more than my old Corrado G60 & I got rid of that because it was costing me too much in fuel, insurance, tyres, etc.

Semi agree with Chris, teenages normally say "nice car.....for a skoda" but when questioned why they said that they can ever answer.

Skoda jokes are a thing of the past, which maybe that is a shame?

Sell it - buy an MR2 ;)

What other hats do you have in your wardrobe? Which do you fancy replacing the Burberry brain shrinker with?

Nice flat cap? Get an Octy

Captains hat? Get a Superb

Homberg? Get a Volvo

Or you could keep the BBS and buy another lukewarm hatch :D

You mean follow Mr "trend setter" Walkie? :D

what about other VAG TDI's - the ibiza or leon cupra's for starters!

Reckon my SDI would match it for running costs and would beat it for fun :D

Must admit I was hoping the fabia vRS would not become as popular as it has. Saying that still only see the odd one now and then. Not as common as a Fiasta ST.

Been thinking about what I would replace it with. Top of the list is a Octy 1 1.8T L&K. Leave it the way it looks (not one for making styling mods as it doesnt change the enjoyment) and mod the engine/suspension.

The new Fabia comes out in a years time. If it looks as boring as the spy picture then it maybe an option.

flatcap sounds good! But can I have me slippers on too? :D;)

Your not on your own. Mines going next week, for extactly the same reasons you outline, to be replaced by a Saab 9-3 Sport Saloon :D .

Thought I'd cash in on the decent residual values whilst I still could, and bag a second hand well speced bargin with everything on it I was thinking of doing to the Fabia over the next year (i.e. Leather Seats, Sports Suspension etc...)

The Fabia's been fun for the year I've had it and a great little car, but somehow I don't think I'll miss it that much.

People - obviously the anti Skud brigade have got in.

I personally think it won't be as bad as the Saxo VTS brigade. Why - for starters the Fabia has 5 doors. And it is a Skoda.

If you must swap look at a Furby Elegance Tdi 100bhp and have it Jabbd.

Alternatively what about an MG ZT. Pick up an 05 reg CDTi for the same if not less. And if you can afford it the V8 260 isn't much more.

Doubt any barryboy would want one of those.

only speaking from the newcastle point of view. ive had loads, i mean literally loads of people come upto me in ma shop and say nice car.... shame about the badge (or along those lines)one of me customers came in the other night and said "skodas are fast becoming the peoples car"i agree especially with the octavia they are becoming seriously common but i still doubt very much that they are becoming what the saxo vts was. theres plenty of other cars that would give the young charva more street cred like a ctr, fiesta st and even the mini.i dunno if uve spoke to any of the young charvas but they all love 0-60 times and how much bhp and the fabia unfortunately falls short in that departement. 90% of fabia vrs drivers i see on the roads generally are 45+ old. they are becoming more common but i still only see about 1 every fortnight or so (minus my brothers and mine). i personally dont think the residuals will be that high on the octy 2 vrs.. i see more of them on a weekly basis than a fabia. (even ma older bro has got 1) the residuals are still high for the fabia vrs.i would know as ive just part ex'd it recently and i got 10.5 k for it (1 year old and registered cat d). dunno about 3 years time but id be willing to put a bet on that it wont happen..

my 2 pence worth

Or you could buy a convertible, put a blonde wig on and you'll look great in the Summer

Hmmmm I think I will pass on that ta!

Nope. Both are more expensive to insure.

It probably won't get that bad. Like has been said the Fiesta ST is the spiritual successor to the Paxo VTS. The Fabia vRS just isn't that common anyway, it's considered a success, but I don't see any for weeks on end in Manchester.

Plus I'm not really bothered who drives them, look at the 3 series BMW - **** city on wheels but Mr and MRS Public think they're wonderful.

If you want rid, I'll swap you for my PD100, no-one will race you, I promise.

Else, I'd keep it and know that the money you're saving is going straight into your pocket and your nights out etc.
