TPS fault

Featured Replies

On our Yeti I have done a fault code scan with a 2nd user VCDS unit that I recently bought.

The only fault showing is the TPS system.

I presume that the monitoring is down to the ABS as there are no TPS sender units in the wheels.

Is it mandatory to have a functioning TPS system or could I code it out somehow?

To get rid of the TPS flashing on the dial, I just pressed the TPS button.

The fault showed itself up when I had to disconnect the battery to fit a 13 pin towing harness (including battery charging and fridge supply). I think I managed to code the harness

for the various functions (disable reverse sensors, disable fog light on car, etc).

Has the TPMS alarm come back since you reset it?

TPMS has been mandatory on cars built since Nov 2014, and is now part of the MOT.

Yet curiously, a warning lamp which indicates a tyre has lost pressure is not a fail. The vehicle will only fail is if the warning lamp indicates a fault with the TPMS system.

So if your car goes for an mot test and the light shows an under pressure tyre and will reset, then it'll pass. Only if the light won't extinguish would it fail.

True, although “Tyre obviously under inflated” is reason for a minor fault.

No it hasn't. I presume when the light was flashing on the dash whilst I set off, I then pressed the TPS button which stored the settings.

It has been fine since.

Sounds normal, although I would check / adjust tyre pressures and reset the TPMS again once done.
