Rear wiper automatic wiping.

Featured Replies

I am sad enough to have read the manual and have set my rear wiper to wipe automatically when necessary but it does not do so. the rear wiper will only wipe if i press the stalk away. I have tried it on all intermittent settings but none of them bring the rear wiper into play when it is belting down

I have reset the automatic rear wipe several time on Maxi Dot but it makes no difference. Is there anything I should check before I go in for  a warranty claim? I'm sure it used to work and wonder if the connection between the front wiping and rear wiping has a fused connection somewhere.

Pretty sure there is no auto rain-sensor on the back window

On the Kodiaq, if wiper operation when reverse is selected, the rear wiper operates after so many sweeps of the front wiper, but operated too often for me and ended up wiping a dry screen more often than not, so de-selected it. Just means I need to flick the rear wiper when reversing and whenever the rear screen gets wet, which doesn’t seem to be often.

As there is no sensor on the rear, I'm pretty sure that the function you are trying to set up activates the rear wiper if:

  1. The front wiper is currently activated (automatic or manual)
  2. Reverse gear is selected

Yep thats it exactly. The auto rear wiper only activates if the front wipers are on when you select reverse and only if the menu item is ticked in the infotainment

On my Octavia the rear wiper gives a wipe about every 30 seconds as you drive along (forwards) with the wipers on normal, not intermittent setting.

It's quite well judged.

Same here, if the front wipers are on constant, the rear wipes every 30 sec (ish) and it's also set to switch the headlights on.

I believe it's every 20 wipes of the front. I disable mine as I found a sudden downpour on a dry road would need the front wipers on but the rear would be wiping a dry screen as no spray to be swept up onto the screen.

Conversely, on a soaking wet motorway I would like to have the option of constant rear wipe.

Octavia is a saloon shaped hatchback. I have done many motorway miles in wet conditions and as long as your moving there's know way I would want the option of a constant rear wipe. The car styling as it is very little rain ever gets on the rear screen, only in stop start conditions and then a push forward of stick isn't such a big deal.

This is what I was looking for. I thought it was on the intermittent setting - I was wrong.

I have a May 2014 vrs and although this feature is ticked in Infotainment the rear wiper has never automatically moved ever. Reading the manual you would expect as long as you are going over 5 km/h and lever is in position low or high the rear wiper should sweep every 30 or 10 seconds. Possibly software error in earlier Octavias?

I have auto wipers usually set to the least sensitivity. They rarely operate continuously which means they hardly ever trigger the automatic rear wipe. As a result I constantly have to turn the rear wiper on and off when there is lots of spray because the standard intermittent setting is too frequent and there is no other way to get a single rear wipe. :-( The 30 second interval mentioned above would be nice to have.

There's definitely some inconsistencies here as my rear wiper just comes on and wipes about every 10 seconds.

Front wiper is set to auto and it can not even be raining, the rear wiper still wipes every 10 seconds.  I have mine turned off as a result.
